I'd put money on there being a higher regret rate for Harry Potter tattoos than gender affirming care
@Rasp Thank the gods my trans ass didn't get the HP tattoo I wanted growing up
@maddramaqueen @Rasp Same! Executive dysfunction, for once you have saved me.
@Rasp likely some people have had both and regret the former and not the latter
@tarajdactyl @Rasp yeah, this poor trans guy had top surgery and the HP tattoos on his chest and now deeply regrets the latter

@Rasp ofc there is.

Gender-affirming care has by far the lowest regret rate of any medical intervention.

@kkarhan @Rasp I'm sure you're right and that it's true, but where can I find reliable stats that say this?
@etsnyman @kkarhan @Rasp https://arstechnica.com/health/2023/08/no-regrets-gender-affirming-chest-surgery-in-adults-has-long-term-satisfaction/ -- chest reconstruction surgery satisfaction is second only to urinary incontinence treatment.
No regrets: Gender-affirming chest surgery in adults has long-term satisfaction

Evidence of high satisfaction among adults getting gender-affirming care.

Ars Technica
@bkim @etsnyman @Rasp ecause both are not only improving healthcare but also quality of life.
@kkarhan @bkim @Rasp Thanks! Now I have something to quote when some bigot starts sprouting lies.
@Rasp If you get a Harry Potter tattoo then I feel regret for you. Does that regret count, or does it have to be one's own regret?
@Rasp i'm pretty sure loads of people have said this and someone looked into it and there absolutely is
@Rasp depends on if you count cis women getting breast implants or cis men getting penis enlargement into that, then I think the numbers might be higher.
@toriver @Rasp The breast implant regret rate is higher than the gender affirming care regret rate for sure. A lot of women undo breast implant surgery, because they didnt expect the additional burden.

@eatingrainbows @toriver @Rasp

Penis enlargement surgery is apparently very questionable (there was a ProPublica story on it), so the regret rate is probably even higher there than for breast implant regret.

@Rasp isn’t it true that the regret rate for gender affirming care is incredibly low.
@JonSparks @Rasp Yes, it’s extremely low for trans care.
@Rasp there is a higher regret rate for hip surgery and heart surgery than gender affirming care!
@Rasp 🀣🀣
@Rasp And in most cases the tattoo is more permanent.
@Rasp thank god I was broke when I wanted that time turner tattoo
@Rasp The regret rate for knee replacement surgery is way higher than the regret rate for gender affirming care
@Rasp I have a regret for reading one Harry Potter book and watching six Harry Potter movies.
Why oh why didn't they require me to get two letters from different psychologists and a year of real-life experience as an out non-passing trans person in transphobic environment prior to allowing me to watch these movies? :(
@IngaLovinde @Rasp Two letters from psychologists isn't enough, as all the doctors are institutionally captured by the Book Lobby. You shouldn't be allowed to read Harry Potter until you get two letters of acceptance from real Wizarding schools.
@183231bcb @Rasp I also forgot about five years queue before the first appointment
@Rasp reposting this elsewhere, would you prefer me not to, screenshot, or screenshot censored?
@Rasp How would that compare with certain Game of Thrones related ones ? (Danaerys in particular ?)

@Rasp i think we should work to make that harry potter regret rate even higher

but yes, you're extremely right

at most 3% of people regret gender affirming care & most of that is due to how people are treated by society

actual regrets seem to be percents of a percent

@Rasp and now imagine those stats if trans people also had a theme park and a billion dollar media footprint
@Rasp ngl this is pretty deep. Someone do the research!
@Rasp Don't think betting houses would even bother setting odds for that one, because they're basically 100% odds for more people regretting an HP tattoo vs gender affirming care LMFAO

@Rasp are stats for regret rates collated for any other surgery?

For example, I regret having my wisdom teeth extracted yet no one seems to be out there lobbying for the end of those surgeries? Why is no one bombarding the media with vox pops from me all day about my important opinion?!

@Rasp

The way this made me cackle πŸ˜„πŸ˜πŸ€£

@Rasp Unfair comparison! One is directly forbidden in the Bible (Leviticus 19:28), while the other is just good, compassionate healthcare.
@Rasp As someone who had an HP tattoo covered up in the last year, I can confirm. None of my trans friends have any regret surrounding their transition, but we’ve all gotten our work covered up.
