The drama & confusion continue in #Houston ISD less than 2 weeks from the start of school.

Yesterday, teacher training at NRG stadium was chaos. When asked for comments on the record, teachers declined, fearing they'd be fired by the district for speaking up.

At the training, hundreds of #HISD #teachers packed into hallways, turned away from overcrowded classes, and one person was wheeled away from the stadium by EMS after a panic attack. #Texas #abbott

HISD teacher training conference at NRG Stadium turns into chaos as district begins new school year in 2 weeks | abc13.com

@Incognitim

I haven’t heard the news about changes in Houston. Please tell me they aren’t following Florida.

@MerryShari
In this case, Texas is leading Florida.

Abbott and desantis have been racing to the bottom for a while now. And, although desantis gets a lot more press (because the media appointed him as the trump-beater), abbott is just as authoritarian and is often even more heinous. He's doing his best to actively turn public schools into christian nationalist laboratories.

Greg Abbott’s Authoritarian Power Grab of Houston’s Public Schools

The Texas governor wants to make a big name for himself in the conservative movement, and students are being left behind.

Thanks for sharing this. I wasn’t aware of Abbott. You are right about racing to the bottom. I wish there was a way to help conservatives see that their politicians are playing on their fears only to ride the high of power and to take every freedom they can grab.

@MerryShari

Sure thing! Unfortunately there are so many 'conservative' politicians/demagogues that don't get any coverage because trump (and to a much lesser extent desantis) suck up all the media oxygen.

Sadly, waaay too many otherwise normal-ish people have gotten absolutely brainwashed by fox et al.
And at some point, this country will need some form of mass group therapy to deal with the myriad forms of generational trauma we've experienced.
