Thousands of scientists are cutting back on Twitter, seeding angst & uncertainty https://nature.com/articles/d41586-023-02554-0

Me: If experts leave, "are we just making room for a massive echo chamber that can spread misinformation in a way that is very harmful to society?"

@CaulfieldTim I feel like Truth Social (that’s still around right?) has been it’s own test. I think though that normal people who went to Twitter to see what’s happening will be going there much less with the new situation anyways.
@CaulfieldTim This feels a bit like the "use paper straws" idea for stopping climate change. Sure we could stay on Twitter and try to combat misinformation, but shouldn't the company responsible for moderation and algorithms be held responsible? Like a consumer using a paper straw when industry is responsible for most pollution / green house gasses, trying to fight misinformation on Twitter is screaming into a void at this point.
@CaulfieldTim you literally can’t win in a completely rigged system. Twitter is not some sort of open marketplace of ideas. Twitter is nothing but the plaything of a person who has thrown himself in with the noise, anger & conspiracy of the far right media universe. If that’s what Musk wants to see dominate the platform (he does), then that’s what will dominate the platform. He took the platform private just to do so. It’s on par with truth social now.
