Does anyone else just endlessly duplicate artboards with minor changes each time as a way to iterate on the design you're happy with it? so. many. artboards.
@christianselig Yup, makes it easy to see a history and branch in different directions
@christianselig 🙋‍♂️ opt+drag is the way
@b3ll nooooo ⌘D
@christianselig nooooo ⌥+drag
@b3ll @christianselig Nooooo ⌥+drag the first iteration and then ⌘D all the time so it’s duplicated with same spacing
@christianselig every time. It makes going back to previous versions so much easier, especially when clients are indecisive or want to see the previous version again during a meeting. After a while though it makes Figma slowdown when the board gets really crowded.
@Strafer @christianselig Figma’s 2GB limit and exceptional slowness is a real blocker for even modestly sized design teams working in one file.
@pixelscience @christianselig I’m thankfully the only one working in my files but the 2GB limit does become a pain. I really need to try out Penpot and XD again to see if either are worth using over Figma.
@Strafer @christianselig If you need more than 2GB per file then no web tech solution will work. You’ll need a “Mac assed Mac app”.
@pixelscience @christianselig in my case I’m working on Windows not Mac but an actual program would be better than a web based solution and Penpot’s desktop app is still in development at the moment.
@Strafer @christianselig The same limits that apply to web apps apply to electron apps. So, hopefully they won’t do electron
@pixelscience @christianselig agreed, I haven’t looked into it much but hoping it isn’t otherwise I may need to look at XD again.
@Strafer @pixelscience isn’t XD being sunset because of the Adobe/Figma acquisition?
@ravishanker @pixelscience Potentially, I thought that acquisition had been put on hold though due to antitrust regulators in the UK?
@christianselig dude, it’s like a disease! But at the end I can end up picking my first design and be happy I wasted all that time 😂
@christianselig Every time ~For major changes, I create duplicates horizontally while minor changes are vertical. Versioned X.x for major and X.x.x for minor.
@christianselig so many. It’s maybe the most important Figma feature for me.
@christianselig Yes. But I also make a page in Sketch called Archive, and periodically dump artboards in there
@christianselig how big is this file
@gormster It's Figma, how can you tell?
@christianselig oh I figured it was illustrator. I have no idea.
@christianselig excited to see what you’re cooking 👀
@christianselig definitely! I like to have an overview of all the iteration, and be able to quickly go back to one of them.

@christianselig I want a Time Machine like UI for artboards!

And the ability to go into the past and copy an artboard at any point.
