This is a fascinating way to handle it. I'm curious to see how this applies to other parts of macOS

For example if you tap on an app icon in the Dock does it launch the app in touch-metrics mode?

How Apple could keep the bottom search bar in iOS 26.4 without disturbing the flat navigation hierarchy.
