Looking at this list of the benefits of (continued) membership of the European Convention on Human Rights, its perhaps not so hard to see what the swivel-eyed, right-wing nut-job tendency have against it....

When you're conducting a #classwar, pushing a #racist agenda on #imigration, or just trying to curtail popular criticisms of what you are doing for you (political) chums, these are all a but too inconvenient!

@ChrisMayLA6
If ever I saw a 'woke' agenda, that was it! 👍
@ChrisMayLA6 it's always "rights" that are criticised in a general sense. Nobody ever asks, or at least gets an answer as to, which of these specifically they have a problem with.
@ChrisMayLA6
it'll come as no surprise that #Swexit is mainly pushed by the "ex"nazi party in Sweden, with some support from communists who remain Kremlin aligned even now (somehow).
And yes, looking at brexit they think it actually looks great and makes a solid case for Sweden leaving the EU.
@Gurre @ChrisMayLA6 if the EU leadership actually had some foreign policy independent of Washington (who have thrown European living standards down the toilet)... The EU wouldn't have such a hard sell to make these days.

@ChrisMayLA6 the media barons pushing this agenda, and their Tory puppets are literally worse than scum.

Sadly people just don't know enough about the ECHR. And they won't learn about it on GB News or the Express.

I just hope the Tories don't have the time to scrap it before the next election.

@ChrisMayLA6 what? No right to a bank account?

@ChrisMayLA6
I fully agree that this list is a good start, but my main concern is that is easy to evade personal responsibility. I would prefer it has been framed as a personal list of duties.
So art 1. You have a duty to upholding and abide by this list of duties at all times.
2. You have a duty to preserve the life of others.

Ministers who failed in their duty of comply would be personally liable for damages against those denied their rights. Currently, the tax payer, if anyone does.

@ChrisMayLA6 All the things that prevent the population being enslaved to the whim of the elite with impunity.

This is the Brexit story: remove the people's rights under the guise of giving them more.

@ChrisMayLA6

IMO the word "if" has NO place in any list of rights.
By the nature of it a right MUST NOT be conditional
Religion should be #1 period.

@hajistar

errr... you don't need a remedy if you rights haven't been violated; the 'if' here is merely noting there are specific instances when you need remedy.... not anything that makes any of these rights conditional

@ChrisMayLA6 IMHO, the following no longer apply if you’re in the UK:

1, 5 and 7. Particularly if you’re an asylum seeker
8, 10 and 11 the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act and the Online Safety Bill

Some may be a bit of a stretch but there are probably arguments for others too, but that’s almost half of the stated rights and we are supposed to be living in a free country…

@GillesVilleneuveFan @ChrisMayLA6 that's why HMG wants to disown the charter, it knows we can become once again the most guilty country in the at the ECHR.
@ChrisMayLA6
Hope that they can't do this. Doesn't the Northern Ireland situation prevent them going through with this? I know Tories ignore all law, and will try to con their followers into seeing it as a 'good thing', but this is population control in its most hideous form. It has to be stopped.
@Melinda @ChrisMayLA6
As I understand it, you're right. But regard to the law hasn't stopped them trying in the past, it's all the fault of those pesky lefty lawyers.
@ChrisMayLA6 No secret that the #Tory's goals have always been the reinstatement of feudalism. It has never been a fucking secret, just the middle class tossers think they will somehow be spared the mass impeasantification that will follow. Fuck them the hardest.
@ChrisMayLA6 during corona time many echr rights were broken 2-3 years how do you think about it

@Hans2023

I think an awful lot of things were done during the pandemic/lockdown that would not bear scrutiny in normal times & ECHR rights are not different - as always emergencies are a time when Govt's start t this rights are a luxury that can be suspended
