500 #Elektroauto|s haben da ja gebrannt...

Deswegen war das Feuer so schwer zu löschen…

Stellt sich folgendes heraus:

“Bei der Inspektion wurde nun deutlich, dass die unteren vier der 12 Decks weitgehend unbeschädigt sind. Auch etwa 1000 Autos, darunter 500 elektrische, seien auf den ersten Blick in gutem Zustand”

Ich weiß gerade nicht ob ich lachen oder heulen soll…

@SilviaMarton @FabianLaasch waren da noch mehr eAutos und nur die 500 auf den unteren Decks haben nicht gebrannt oder waren das alle und es hat (leider) gar kein eAuto gebrannt? Diese Berichterstattung macht mich fertig.

Gut. Man muss es positiv sehen. Hier parkte auf dem Doppelhubparker auch so ein Spinner seinen Verbrenner der mir „natürlich“ mein E-Auto und die damit verbundenen „Gefahren“ erklären musste - inklusive unvermeidlichem Hinweis auf Kumpel wo Ingenieur bei Daimler und wichtig mega kompetent und Bullshit.

Der hatte den Platz gemietet und parkt deshalb nun draußen neben dem Haus (ebenfalls Miete) und bekommt halt Blätter und Kram ab. Freut mich jedes Mal, wenn ich dran vorbei gehe. 😇

Anyway, we had a fire in a parking garage in Norway, being Norway, a lot of EVs were parked there. People were assuming that an EV caused it, because, well, people assume that any car that burns is an EV. It was a diesel car that started it. But then people said "well it was tricky because there were a lot of EVs there, and once the batteries start burning, it is hard to put out." (1/2)

@Laberpferd @FabianLaasch Turns out, NOT A SINGLE BATTERY caught fire. Even though the EVs themselves was burned to a crisp, the battery did not start burning.

It is a thing to assume the worst and blame EVs over and over, but when it comes to fires and safety, it is knowledge, not EVs, that are the problem.

Nothing is 100% safe and batteries can burn, but it is so exceptionally rare, and gas cars are WAY more risky.

@FabianLaasch @Laberpferd It is, fortunately, though slowly, getting better. I swapped to EV 9 years ago, and grief the amount of comments and mockery I would get back then.

These days it is mostly "keyboard-worrier trolls".

@panduck Nevertheless people should get educated and nobody should be blamed to consider risk. Even that diesel car could ignite surrounding stuff, and once you get a heavily protected battery of an EV burning - THEN you get the shit going. Lately a Camping Caravan burned down nearby. It had 2 gas cartridges for cooking.
Firefighters told people to back away for there was a risk it would explode at high temperatures.
When a loud bang appeared, we were speeding away - turned out a tire went poof.
Gas cartridges have a good protection against pressure and fire damages that might save things in most occasions. The few that are beyond are the

Same with the batteries. They will last a lot of situations and a car park is surely none of the scenes that - beside cars - hold a lot of fire load.

But the difference is the precautions - and that should always consider the worst case, even when the worst case is hard to achieve.

It is a problem when people jump to conclusions that EVs have contributed to major damage without even bother waiting to get the facts, yes.

Peoples attitude to EVs is rarely fact based and heavily influenced by an anti-EV propaganda from both auto and oil industry. This is a problem.

@Bugspriet @Laberpferd @FabianLaasch I don't know what warnings was given now, but warnings I have seen from firefighters have been very "worst case scenario" oriented and very little info about just HOW unlikely this scenario is, and hence extremely easy to interpret as EVs being extremely volatile and likely to cause the worst possible damage.

So, they are in part to blame for the mindset people have now, yes.

@panduck Disagree. People and press shoud learn the difference of precautions and gossip. Wear a lifejacket on a sailing boat for you might drown. Fasten the seatbelt in a plane, when landing - is not considered as we will crash or sink.But when they let people having that risk without warning, it becomes their responsibility.
