#Cornell--an Ivy League with a huge endowment that received stolen land from the US government & doesn't pay taxes to the city it resides in--is trying to push through an opaque deal regarding what it pays in lieu of taxes in an antidemocratic way before new electeds take over, who will pressure them harder.

I'd appreciate boosting this, to keep pressure on this stingy, self-serving institution. They'll only do what's right if their reputation is on the line.

It should be known that among all people working on any type of social justice issues in Ithaca, Cornell has a very bad reputation for being self-serving and generally shows total disregard for community well-being

Here's a recent example of how #Cornell does not care for the lower-income residents of #Ithaca. Three quarters of the bus systems' riders are Cornell-affiliated, but Cornell refuses to pay anything above it's mandatory 1/3 of the funding for busses.

Cornell declines increased funding request from TCAT, citing lack of ‘specific justification’

#Cornell also boots students off its healthcare when they are having mental health struggles by forcing them to take academic leave.

This puts a strain on the county's #MentalHealth services which, as expected, are already inadequate and underfunded. It directly results in resources being taken away from more permanent non-student residents of #Ithaca and Tompkins County.

Having received stolen land (land grant university) and being tax-exempt. Cornell must do better.

@00Aaron Can Confirm!
@atalayaleda hah you're how I know this in the first place! It's not like Cornell's going to tell us.
@00Aaron If it wasn’t for #cornell the streets in Ithaca would be filled with pot holes.
@plus_sized_merman that's a great example of what they like to say!
