Pro-tip: if you're gonna be a real smartie and use a Pi-Hole (they're nice) to send mean ad websites to their doom when you Internet, maybe remember to set up a secondary DNS server on your damn router as well so in the very likely event that happened to me for weeks that you're Pi-Hole is a bit sluggish to respond you.. you know have internet to talk to.

@olivierlacan I was reading this morning something very similar

> Before we get started on how to setup Pi-hole on a Synology NAS, it is incredibly important to note that having redundant DNS servers is very important. I highly suggest that you purchase a cheap Raspberry Pi Zero and configure Pi-hole on it so that you have two Pi-hole DNS servers. This will ensure that when your NAS is rebooted, your clients do not lose DNS resolution services.

@olivierlacan I was reading that article because I was actually having the same task: I want a second #PiHole in the NAS just in case the #RaspberryPi goes caput (again) and left my whole house network in the dark - for the 3rd time in the last 6 years.
@esparta best to set the dns server at the DHCP level then not on the individual connections so you can have 1.1.1.1 as a fallback?
@olivierlacan yeap, had that configuration, the router has a normal DNS. The 2nd #PiHole is more to have the backup when the #RaspeberryPi dies - surprisingly they do, especially because of the storage so fragile.
@esparta @olivierlacan yep. I've got two #adguard containers. One on #raspberrypi, one on the nas.
I'm hoping that putting the pi in a case and using an ssd will keep it alive for longer!
@esparta Feels a bit silly to have two Pi’s. It’s ok if filtering is offline for a minute. No?
@olivierlacan yes, it's OK to have the fallback in a normal DNS, nothing wrong with that.
