Behind the grand vision, there’s a history of exploiting people in the Global South for biometric data and tech that doesn’t actually work very well. Maybe it’s just a means to pump a crypto token, but there’s good reason for regulators to shut it down now.

@parismarx What is also amazing is that irises are not useful because they change over time, hence airports quietly canned that experiment. But that would fit perfectly with the con job they want to perpetrate anyway.

"Ah, you are not who you say you are, our technology says so" etc etc/

@parismarx Good thing you're shining a spotlight on this, they've been scanning eyeballs in malls here for at least a year and a half and it creeps me out.

@echanda @parismarx Lisbon, Portugal. Most of the articles I saw on this don't even list the country, but it's certainly here. Their "Regional Growth Manager" for Europe is Portuguese.

I think we need to look somewhere else. Iris, changing or not over time, is biometric data and should be treated as strictly personal and confidential information. Even implementing extreme high security is not enough, it's too much sensitive information together.
On an eventual leak to bad actors' hands, it's worse than what we want to solve with this initiative.
