Unilever does business with the Russian terrorist state, pays taxes, and finances the Russian war machine.

When you buy Unilever products such as Dove, Knorr, Ben & Jerry’s, Lipton, Hellman’s, Magnum and Comfort you become an unwitting accomplice to war crimes and the degradation of humanity.

@mhmck is there a source for this?

One of many articles on Unilever continuing to do business in Russia...

Unilever will let Russia employees be conscripted

The Cornetto maker says it will comply with Russian law to permit staff to be conscripted.

@mhmck @KatM Honestly, while I knew the full brand list was disgustingly long, I kind of expected it to be longer & more varied than this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unilever_brands

And they produce so many products that it is nearly impossible to completely avoid them.

@mhmck We really have to force corporations to divest.
@mhmck
Ben and Jerry's is owned by Unilever? Glad to know that...
@GatekeepKen @mhmck it should be noted that Ben and Jerry’s maintains an independent board over which Unilever does not have majority control. It doesn’t necessarily change anything about cash flow (which other commenters have rightly noted is not an issue anywhere near unique to Unilever — if you don’t want your money going to Russia, you’d better stop buying pretty much any national brand), but they also didn’t just roll over and give up their identity as part of the purchase.
@e3b0c442 @mhmck
there are lots of better Ice cream companies that aren't inbed with crooks and traitors.

@GatekeepKen @mhmck Lots? Not likely. Some? Yes. Available in my area? Less likely.

Given that "selling things for a profit" is nearly universally synonymous with "screwing people out of their worth" in today's economy, I find it less likely that there are a lack of crooks and more likely that the spotlight just isn't on them right now.

It's easy to turn on the moral outrage while conveniently ignoring the rest of reality. Not targeted at you, just a general reminder it's not all two-tone.

@mhmck as with Danone and Carlsberg, I would not be surprised if the Russian state took possession of Unilever in Russia, seems like an obvious move.
@mhmck I wonder, is there an app whereby I can scan the barcode of a given product and learn if I can safely buy the product? 🤔
@mhmck You don't have to be evil to work at Unilever but it is meriting.
@mhmck Well, even though this isn’t new to me, these posts seems to be very good at disclosing Vatnik accounts. They usually start with "I am not defending Russia" and go on defending Russia.
@mhmck And the fun thing is that they’re very difficult to avoid! I’ve been quietly boycotting Unilever for around a decade (for a few social justice related reasons) and gosh, it is hard to make sure nothing I buy has that friggin’ U on it, especially with them constantly buying out previously-safe brands.
@mhmck and of course the origins of the company are from Nigerian colonisation
