it is very important to remind the public not to piss on the police if they are on fire
the cool thing about the snopes reply guys is: none of your attempts matter because no one is reading them before bein their own snopes reply guy
@vegetablegremlin why does it feel like anyone not informing them also got a ticket for not telling the pigs.
@vegetablegremlin I would very much like a source for this story
@junipart id like a magic mud puddle that tells the future
@vegetablegremlin asking for a source is not unreasonable, don't know why you're acting like it is
@junipart the only way to know why anybody acts in any how is to get to know them. dere's a million stories in da naked city

@junipart @vegetablegremlin

They want you to block them? I certainly did.

@junipart @vegetablegremlin the source seems to be that it is made the fuck up. Best I can find for the original image source is this story: https://www.audacy.com/wwl/news/local/sheriff-vehicle-drives-off-with-gas-hose-for-safety-test?utm_source=flipboard&utm_content=AWC%2Fmagazine%2FWeird%21%20

The accompanying text seems to be from a facebook parody police page called Lincoln County Police Dept, which was later screencapped to share on reddit.

ACAB regardless, but for all the stuff they've actually done, not silly cartoonish fictional villainy.

@rezzyreksya

Demon Queen Lucretia, how did you find that article? I went poking around on tineye and Google images but couldn't find anything (probably because they modified the image a bit).

(I'm asking because I want to get better at finding information online).

@Hafa_Airhead I cropped out the text and then used this site to do a reverse image search https://www.labnol.org/reverse/

I don't have much experience of reverse image searching and tineye wasn't working for me, so I found this site instead.

@vegetablegremlin This is from a satire FB page called "Lincoln County Police Department"

Fuck the cops, but there are plenty of real reasons to hate them.

@North @vegetablegremlin The fact that this is so plausible that extreme parody and satire are indistinguishable from reality... says a lot about just how bad reality actually is.

@vegetablegremlin @hex This is from a *satire Facebook page*: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=255916147198448&id=100083401927483

This is not a real thing that happened.

@jsit @vegetablegremlin @hex that no one can tell probably says enough on it's own.
@vegetablegremlin @hex You for real β€œLiterally Unbelievable”d yourself
@vegetablegremlin (I predict) all will be overturned

@vegetablegremlin

1. How is this even legal?

2. This is why police funding should never be based off tickets, fines and asset forfeiltures.

3. That's some fash baiting!

4. Agreed!

@kkarhan @vegetablegremlin It seems to be from a parody account on FB rather than a real occurrence.

Hopefully it doesn't continue to be spread as misinformation because I worry it undermines real injustices and incidents of corruption when people see falsehoods like this presented as fact and then imagine there's little or no real corruption πŸ˜¬πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

And I'm sure there are plenty of people elsewhere trying to raise awareness about real incidents that this kind of thing distracts from.

@O_DarcyW @kkarhan does your master detective work extend to checking replies to see if someone's already cracked the case

@vegetablegremlin If only you put the same effort into replying to the people you can see took your original post seriously instead of encouraging them to believe something that isn't true.

When things like this are presented as truth and then debunked, it allows others to pretend there are few real injustices and anyone who criticises law enforcement is just misinformed or willingly lying. It is my "job", as you put it in your other reply to me, to care about that because that's human decency.

@O_DarcyW @vegetablegremlin to be fair if someone out there hasn't noticed the police hunting disabled people for sport in the streets by now, it's because they choose not to, not because of some dumbass facebook post.
@B_Whitewind @vegetablegremlin Very true. I don't think it helps to trivialise the important stuff though and it plays into disinformation to spread misinformation, if that makes sense.
@O_DarcyW @vegetablegremlin The sheer fact that I did believe this to be real and not a shitpost tells a lot about how LEAs from the USA are known and seen from around the world.
When reporters from #DWnews get shot at whilst reporting live and threatened to get hospitalized by #Riotcops for the "crime" of existing as journalists...

...& cops routinely murder non-white children and have toy guns in their cars to place on them, baiting ppl. into "#Jaywalking" isn't absurd.

@kkarhan @vegetablegremlin Not absurd at all. It's very believable. It's hard to convince others of that though when they see deliberate misinformation though. Misinformation never helps and certainly not where important issues are concerned.
@vegetablegremlin that is insane levels of entrapment, id contest the shot out of that
@Smando its nowhere near the entrapment levels of like every fbi terror plot bust though
@vegetablegremlin totally agree, just posted about the Newburgh 4 the other day!

@vegetablegremlin This appears to be the actual incident: https://www.audacy.com/wwl/news/local/sheriff-vehicle-drives-off-with-gas-hose-for-safety-test
While ACAB, we should focus on truthful incidents. FSM knows there are plenty of incidents of cops entrapping people, we don't need to spread made up stories.

@deathkitten @vegetablegremlin And that still sounds like a load of crap.

Police are not generally tasked with industrial, commercial or fire safety. That would be the realm of inspectors from the city, county, state or local fire department.

My take: They drove off with it by accident and then went back and told the c-store β€œYou have a very nice gas station. It would be a shame if anything happened to it” and then had to respond to the public because of social media.

@deathkitten @vegetablegremlin And you don’t test like that. It’s not a standardized test. And if it failed, it could result in fire, property loss and even personal injury or death.

Yes, the story about the β€œtrap” is false. But the story the cops gave doesn’t pass the sniff test.

@bplein @vegetablegremlin Right. So why make up bullshit when they're literally lying to our faces and the media is reporting it as facts? We don't need to lie to make them look bad.
@vegetablegremlin this is from a satire page on facebook but i still wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=255916050531791&id=100083401927483&set=a.129630353160362

@vegetablegremlin @donw Heads up, its from a parody page.

Although I still agree with the sentiment.

@Sonikku @donw master detective read replies before cracking the case challenge (impossible diff)

@vegetablegremlin @Sonikku @donw

You still posted crap from a parody site as if it were legit like some kind of clueless Republican boomer.

But sure, the guy informing you of your error is to blame for not reading the replies on a site where reply dissemination can be inconsistent.

@Sonikku @vegetablegremlin it’s indistinguishable from things the cops have absolutely done so I feel no guilt for believing it. But I do feel bad I didn’t detect the obvious indication of farce with there being no mention of them using asset forfeiture to take the people’s cars.
@vegetablegremlin @donw where is this terrible place?

@woolfhound @vegetablegremlin @donw Seems to be from a parody account on FB rather than a real occurrence.

Hopefully it doesn't continue to be spread as misinformation because I worry it undermines real injustices and incidents of corruption when people see falsehoods like this presented as fact and then imagine there's little or no real corruption πŸ˜¬πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

@O_DarcyW @vegetablegremlin @donw yeah it kind of set my BS detector off.
@vegetablegremlin If the police induce you to commit an offense, is that not entrapment?

@ianhecht @vegetablegremlin Yep but this seems to be from a parody account on FB rather than a real occurrence.
