"but you're so smart"

No, smartness doesn't mean anything. People can resolve or develop complex models but need in the every day life accomodations! Better, with the right accomodations, we can all develop our capabilities at an extend which will benefit the entire society and humanity!

@actuallyautistic @Autistrain @AutisticAdam don’t love the misconception that autism is an intellectual disorder. My mom literally called me the r-word a lot of my life. My boss said Im too intelligent to be autistic. There’s no goldilocks zone apparently where people will just believe I am what I am.

@clouddweller

Yes, you're absolutely right! There is such a big stereotype on autism that we have in majority an intellectual deficit and a small group who know everything. I hate it. People will either infantilized you or ask you to make your autistic traits invisible. Both ending in a domination and control of the majority of a minority.

Now, autism has nothing to do with intelligence and smartness. It's a neurology which disable you as a response of the lack of accomodations and as a systemic issues of discrimination in the society.

@actuallyautistic @AutisticAdam

@Autistrain @clouddweller @actuallyautistic @AutisticAdam I like to say that autism is an entirely separate trait from intelligence. That the same spectrum of intelligence exists across both autistics and allistics, but because of how autism changes our brain, our intelligence (or lack thereof) manifests differently. So you can't use the same metrics to gauge it in us as you would with allistics.
