Storing your personal data, family photos, and other files in the cloud may be utilized for machine learning and AI purposes by ToS. It doesn't matter if it is a free or paid service. These greedy companies will not stop. Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent this from happening besides discontinuing the use of nearly all cloud services.
Zoom terms and conditions now allow training AI on user content with no opt out. 🤣 See section 10.2 and 10.4 https://explore.zoom.us/en/terms/

@nixCraft “Service Generated Data” is one hell of a euphemism.
@nixCraft I'll be very interested to see how my employer, who deals with a great deal of sensitive non-public information and also relies on Zoom for 100% of its teleconferencing will react to that 🤔
@nixCraft Zoom has always been a #privacy nightmare. Jitsi Meet is open source and has real end-to-end encryption.
@nixCraft I have to use Zoom for work... 🙃
@robustjumprope I doubt that your boss will want the private data pertaining its business or their likeness used to train A.I.. That might have to be pointed out... @nixCraft
[EDIT: Read the ToS and it looks like they are talking, for now, about ancillary data like telemetry and usage timers and pointers, not video & sound but it's my interpretation of it, if I'm right, it's a matter of time. If I wanted spyware I'd install viruses directly on my computer].

@nixCraft
That appears to apply only to service generated data, and not user data.

More concerning is the privacy statement content...

"“Zoom provides intelligent features and products, such as [...] to recommend chat, email or other content, that may use artificial intelligence, machine learning, or other technology to analyze and process your content and personal data to develop, provide and improve intelligent features and products.”

@nixCraft I'm sure big clients looking for video conferencing solutions will see that as a big plus when deciding on which to buy /s
@nixCraft Zoom is a shady company. People were aware of several issues with zoom but still continued to use it for the sake of convenience.
@nixCraft This is not funny! Doctors give online lectures, and hold online meetings, showing pictures and videos from patients - but patients never gave their consent for that kind of thing. This IS a problem!
@nixCraft of course you can opt out... Its called finding a different service
@nixCraft looks like it was updated again today saying they won't use content for training ai without permission
