Institutions like the New York Times have an intense desire to be seen as neutral and rational in the eyes of people who at this point have no respect for them-- and this desire is so important that any harm that might come from legitimizing people who have eliminationist ideas just isn't as important.

It's a kind of affirmative action for conservative ideas only practiced by centrist liberals.

Can you imagine centrist conservatives ever even having such a concern?

@futurebird @foser the owners of the new york times aren't centrist liberals. they're just multimillionaires of the media oligarchy. they have great power but there's some whose power is greater. their positions aren't ideological. they're only financial.

I agree that there's an incredibly low standard for a right winger to get published in the NYT, but my guess as to why aligns with blogdiva's - they want to show that they are useful to powerful people and institutions. They are the highest quality courtiers!
