I like the overall vibe better on bluesky bc there are a LOT more twitter people there and it has that familiar feel, it's more accepting of shitposts, etc but at the end of the day it's another corporate platform that will eventually monetize and then start sucking shit chasing ad dollars and probably be destroyed by its dumbshit techbro devs, so it behooves me to keep putting energy into making Jorts the official Shitposting Center of the Fediverse
at the end of the day, I trust a dusty old PC in Lux's closet a hell of a lot more than yet another VC fueled Big Platform

@ancient_catbus the fact that BlueSky is smaller but with a stronger willingness for Twitter users to migrate towards it speaks volumes about them doing something correctly with their design. (Not to negate their profit motives and moderation controversy though; they still have a lot to work on.)
@antimnguyen yeah whatever else you say about it, it FEELS better even tho it still lacks so much basic functionality. Mainly, it's very simple to join and finding your friends and talking with them is easy and intuitive
@ancient_catbus I am curious to see how their AT protocol pans out in the long run, or if their goals are empty promises. It should allow for ActivityPub style decentralization, but they make heavier promises about portability where it isn't just identity and social graph, but content as well (which ActivityPub does not handle.)
@antimnguyen yeah if their take on federation creates the fractures and annoyances as Masto, they're screwed imo
twitter ppl like it now bc it's one place, just like they're used to- if it gets more complicated or annoying on the user end, that edge is gone

If it were easier to figure out how to setup a personal instance, maybe it wouldn't bother me as much. But I am fully aware that I get a lot of benefits from my current instance in terms of discovery and moderation.

That, and (though nobody would put it this way) the exclusive, and carefully selected membership

stop charnel 2025@ancient_catbus same. for all its problems I feel like masto is really the only viable way forward. there’s already a very basic masto–bluesky bridge available so once it opens up I’d hope there’ll be other possibilities for integration
