dawning realisation working with LLMs and MCP
and no it won’t ‘get better’ to the point where it can write good, maintainable code because you *need an aesthetic sense* to do that. you can’t teach it. you can foster it, but you can’t lay out a load of rules and expect that to lead there
I am so Fucking Bored of claude and I want it to go away and never bother me again. I’ve genuinely tried hard to integrate it into our workflow, style, tooling etc and, just, no
can’t talk about this anywhere that anyone from work would see it but, I’ve been having to work with LLM coding tools cos the company wants to scope things out and a) they’re not useless but b) they’re incredibly annoying and c) unless your entire job is writing short-lived, targeted scripts you have nothing to worry about
vs the general attitude to ancient, creaking projects which we have been insisting for YEARS need to be thrown away and rebuilt because there will come a point when we simply can't keep them working
thinking about this as, again, our project manager gets incredibly wound up about a tiny piece of technical housekeeping which may in the worst case result in *seconds* of downtime
I remember when I used to do print work a manager at the printers saying 'there's never time to do it right, but there's always time to do it again' and it's always stuck in my head
finished the Openapi Horror and might just go out and lie in the rain now
