I still have #no clue #how to use #hashtags on #mastodon effectively. On #reddit at least there are topical subs, that concept even I can understand. On the other hand, it's sometimes hard to pick the right sub. The opposite problem, I guess.
Can't we just have a smart network showing stuff to the best places? Oh wait... We've been there, and it broke the internet.
Algorithmic feeds would be really nice... in a world where they are not profit-driven attention stealing machines. One can dream.
@compi "federation" is quite simple, if you have e-mail, you know what it is. it just means you can choose your provider "instance" and still they all can work together. They can also have different rules, and nobody has complete control and can shut "the whole thing" down.
If you take down Gmail, there are still millions of other email providers. If Google does something you dislike, just switch over. So that's pretty cool 😎 that's why it's @username@mastodonInstance, looking almost like an e-mail address.
