"History will judge them harshly."

Do you really think that matters to them? They'll be long gone when History--which can't judge anything, it can only be recorded and people learn/remember what took place--"judges" them.

And it'll be too late by then anyway. And they don't care. At all.

Can we maybe choose a different phrase? Like, say, "These vile fascists are total assholes who are destroying democracy and need to be stopped STAT"? How's that?

You're welcome. #ImPissed THREAD🪡 1/…

@GottaLaff
100% right.

These authoritarians want complete control and expect to write the textbooks. They are *not* concerned about history.

@TCatInReality Thanks! Plus, "History" doesn't "judge" anything. History is not a person.

People use that phrase lazily and it drives me nuts. If you want to say that people will be seen as the schmucks they are, say it. Don't lay it on inanimate "History."

@GottaLaff
I agree.

Just like they're not afraid of "the law" because they expect to write the laws.

The public needs to understand that " history" and "law" are not immutable, neutral facts. They are an exercise in power - and we must take greater care with who we invest with that power.

Anti-Intellectualism Is Killing America

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/our-humanity-naturally/201506/anti-intellectualism-is-killing-america

Social dysfunction can be traced to the abandonment of reason.

Key Points
* Ignorance, or an aversion to reason, has allowed things like gun violence and racism to define American culture.
* Anti-intellectual societies fall prey to tribalism and simplistic explanations, are emotionally immature, and often seek violent solutions.
* Corporate interests encourage anti-intellectualism, conditioning Americans into conformity and passive acceptance of institutional dominance.

To summarize: Given that our government and cultures are controlled by a) capitalists and b) religious leaders...it's pretty much a given that ignorance and emotion are the driving forces in our society.

@Frances_Larina @WBOrcutt @GottaLaff @OccuWorld
Capitalists and religions have pretty much always run society. The question is what allowed science to have so much influence in the past 250 years?

My guess: Science was a tool used to increase profits so of course Capitalists embraced it. My fear is that at some point soon if capitalism falls, religion will once again have its time of power.

@Frances_Larina @TCatInReality @GottaLaff @OccuWorld

True. The challenge for
for the future of democracy & humanity in this time of climate emergency and rising Fascism is somehow to educate & enlighten people that they have been deceived.

IMHO that means that we cannot depend on politicians or industry. Politicians continued employment depends on votes and money. Industry's continued greed depends on Capitalism and the influence of those politicians and deception of the public.

Therefore, the only solution I see is for us to inform the public directly of the truths regarding governance
and Global Warming by posting on social media directly to individuals.

With regard to the climate crisis, I believe that we should always use the term "Global Warming" & the fact that it is caused by greenhouse gasses (GHGs).

Every mitigation effort should be measured by it's reduction of GHGs.

@WBOrcutt @TCatInReality @GottaLaff @OccuWorld

"the only solution I see is for us to inform the public directly of the truths regarding governance
and Global Warming by posting on social media directly to individuals."

The problem I see with this is that people who don't already accept it are refusing to accept it. Not accepting it makes them feel powerful, and that is encouraged by the media and leaders they follow.
