Surprisingly I am having some success with getting my immediate family and friends to swith to #matrix as a chat platform.

For me this is pretty huge, as the main thing keeping me from deleting my Meta account is that everyone in Denmark uses either Messenger or Instagram for direct messaging.

Does Matrix has support for video calls? if it does, is the quality any good, in let's say, the main matrix.org instance?

I still rely a lot in Messenger's audio and video calls and weirdly enough, for whatever reason, I find the quality better than in Whatsapp (even if they both belong to Meta).

@svizcay it does support video and voice, but I haven't tried it yet. Worth a try at least.

@EvilCartyen
Well, please let me know your secret.

This is a battle I already lost. My family and friends did not want to change to @signalapp. And as I said in a previous toot, I cannot imagine how their minds would react if I explained to them about @matrix and some of its clients as @element or #FluffyChat by @krille.

@camilobotero I just sort of... asked, explained that I wanted to leave the corporate web because reasons and asked if they were up for trying a different instant messaging app.

You have to get a few key people to join, and then for each person you convince the rest are easier. I expected to get nowhere with it, but to my delight most people were up for it. I guess they are already in WhatsApp, messenger, and more so what's another client?

As for the difficulty of Matrix as a concept, it wasn't really a problem. Told them to download element, and that if they were unhappy with it there were other apps to choose from.
