Bad news

#Google finally released more info about their new #GooglePlayPolicies:

Personal accounts must give Google legal name, legal address, email and phone number.

Google will publish legal name, country and email for developers.

Organization accounts must give the above info and a D-U-N-S number.

Google will publish legal name, address, email and phone number for organization accounts.

Google is effectively going to dox every single trans dev on #GooglePlay.

@SylvieLorxu for now this seems to be limited to new accounts.

To me this is a class issue. Rich people will just rent an office somewhere and use that address instead of their home address.

It's definitely yet another thing that disproportionally affects those poorer and/or queer and that the rich can easily avoid accountability for, yeah. It shows the importance of us all standing together to protect ourselves, no matter which of us is being attacked specifically.

The DNS register used to publish this kind of information and the policy was changed to avoid inadvertently doxxing people in vulnerable situations. Surely Goggle would be violating privacy law in a whole bunch of countries, by both insisting people give them this information and by publishing it?!?

I've been planning to deGoggle for a *long* time. I got another nudge when they started putting storage limits on accounts, which was the main reason I'd put it off. But there's always been something more urgent to do. Now it's looking very urgent. No ways I'm giving those corporate Stalinists (more of) my personal information.
