We should not ignore the fact that the GOP is on track to nominate as its presidential candidate a man who is indicted on 78 criminal counts across multiple jurisdictions both state and federal. The GOP is broken beyond repair.
@georgetakei Apart from the fact that this man wants to sexually assault any woman he sees, sue anybody who looks at him funny, and never pays his bills?
@georgetakei I stop and suddenly realize that 30 or 40% of the US put loyalty to Trump over loyalty to the democracy, laws and norms of the USA. That is terrifying.
@georgetakei Absolutely amazing! Really says something about the GOP, doesn't it?
@georgetakei Their kind of guy.
Or their sponsors' kind of guy, which is slightly similar.

@georgetakei

It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Trump corporation

@georgetakei Putin wants Trump so they must obey.

@georgetakei
Well, Charlie Manson is dead so they figured that Donnie was their second best option.

Goes to show that the so called "party of law and order" is nothing of the sort...

@georgetakei three words:

"Banana Republican Party."
@georgetakei We should not ignore the fact that the Republican Party is prepared to nominate someone who was (is) prepared to use the U.S. military on its own citizens to stay in power after losing an election.
@georgetakei Setting aside the delusion needed to support Trump, isn’t he the best game in town for driving the liberal vote? Does any self-respecting human want to see that shit stain in office again?
@stillmjd @georgetakei if there's one thing I've learned over the last few years it's how few humans are self-respecting.
@stillmjd @georgetakei never underestimate the ability of liberals to snatch defeat from the jaws of what should be an easy victory.
@georgetakei “I am the law and order candidate.” — Donald Trump, now literally a convicted rapist
@georgetakei They think one of the worst, if not THE worst, person in America should be president
@georgetakei Like Mitch McConnell said. They deserved it.
@georgetakei
And who has already been judged in a court of law by a jury of his betters to be a rapist.

@krag @georgetakei
Ironically the nazis weren't christians. They started in the '30s big show trials for priests raping children. To undermine their influence.
When it didn't work, they started to work together. But only on the surface. Underneath, the nazis remained atheist.

To refrase: Never underestimate the one who can fool conservative christians in to supporting him/his cause even though he does exactly the oposite.

@Jeroen @krag @georgetakei

Gobbel was a catholic and was excommunicated after the war - for marrying a protestant.
Hitler's birthday was celebrated with a special mass in Germany until the end of the war. He called on Jesus in many of his speeches.
The first treaty signed by the Nazi regime was with the Vatican.

@Ttown @krag @georgetakei To me, the life of Goebbels doesn't seem to be very catholic (catholic myself). But I do realise that statement is true for many people.
The concordate was signed to get the catholics on their side (the mass for Hitler is an extention of it) The nazis saw the benefit of having the church's blessing. Even though they differt opinions.
The church did it for stopping communism and to keep their influence. The pope later regretted some parts: encyclical Mit brennender Sorge

@Jeroen @krag @georgetakei
So Goebbel didn't get excommunicated for killing Jews, and the Vatican was cozying up to Hitler, it was copacetic. Mussolini had the blessing of the Vatican in Italy.

If the Vatican approves, doesn't that make you a good Christian?

@Ttown @krag @georgetakei
The answer depends on your stance and idea of a 'good Catholic' (protestants and orthodox don't need the blessing of the Vatican 🙂) Even today those questions aren't solved. It has always been a huge debate in what way the pope leads.
Liberal christians (more liberties local) vs ultramontagnists (the pope does it al)
But this answer isn't related to the starting picture.
@georgetakei they consider this a feature.

@georgetakei

The GOP is no longer a political party.

The FAKE Republican Party has become some sort of reality disorder.

Wanting to destroy the American political and legal systems, perhaps even violently, has become a distinctive symptom of some sort of mental disorder.

@georgetakei
Remember when a simple slip of the tongue used to be enough to tank your campaign?
@georgetakei The good old Banana Republican Party.... The party of law and order!
@georgetakei looking at the polls, the #USA is broken beyond repair.

@georgetakei The GOP is no on track for anything yet. The media might want to make it seem that way, but nothing is on track. Most people are not paying attention yet and have no idea who they will go for and are not paying attention. Sure it might seem like Trump has the most support, but that is an illusion so far.

I live in Iowa, I get regular mailings from several different people wanting me to caucus for them come next year. They wouldn't be spending that money if they didn't think they could win.

@georgetakei If those people win the election it will be the end of democracy in the U.S.

@georgetakei In their defense (?) they have absolutely no one with any bit of charisma, leadership ability, and name recognition...so they're settling for name recognition only, despite what that name is recognized for.
@georgetakei
imagine an elected president who's in prison....
@georgetakei always has been. The right needs to be extinguished anyway.

@georgetakei I find it kind of amazing that I, along with many others, have watched the demise of the Republican Party play out before our wide-open eyes in slow motion.

For me, it always begins with Newt Gingrich and his "Contract for America". That was the point at which Republicans signed up to put loyalty to Republican leadership above Republican values. And it's been flaming and spectacular and terrifying and we are not through it yet.

#newtgingrich #contractwithamerica #republicansdemise

@georgetakei Ronald Reagan must be so proud.
@georgetakei The Republican Party should be declared a terrorist organization. Violent extremists and their fascist leaders.
@georgetakei They are all about law and order. Spending most of their time in court.
@georgetakei the GOP became a failed political party the moment they abandoned democracy and turned to an attempted terrorist military coup to get their way on Jan 6, 2021. This is not what broke them. This is merely the long death rattle.
@georgetakei A thought: Over this next year to 2024 election, some republicans who aren't diehard Trump voters will tire of Trump's constant babbling about his criminal indictments and and his attacks on state and federal prosecutors to vote for Biden as lesser of evils. They'll see Trump trying to create autocratic presidency for himself and using government to profit his business interests. At least those who aren't blind to truth. Just a thought.
@georgetakei yeah, they're gonna have to own it.

@georgetakei

I think the GOP is pretty much on track - for a fascistic party - and will do anything to stay in power. What is broken is any sense of democracy, morality or fairness.

@georgetakei

This is what an anti-democracy movement looks like

Texas state government was converted to oligarchy successfully

Now that the test run concluded successfully, Republican billionaire donors want to scale it up to the national level

Every government job filled by the friends & family of GOP donors. The application of the law varying depending on political affiliation

The Soviets & Nazis also required party membership for education access & business licenses. The GOP is similar

In Texas, where money has long dominated politics, Greg Abbott is in a league of his own

The two-term governor’s donors enjoy access, appointments to boards and commissions, and a chance to bend the ear of a politician who may harbor bigger ambitions.

The Texas Tribune
@georgetakei "GOP" is a convenient faceless moniker, but the ugly truth is that the GOP apparatus is doing it because there is enough actual American people wanting this to happen. Hateful, misogynistic, racist, bigoted people who live nearby.
@georgetakei All cowards. Afraid to open their mouths and speak out. Fake-Christians who wpuld sell the devil himself for their own benefit.

@georgetakei Absolute motherfucking scumbags. And that’s an understatement.

“Ask not who the shithole countries are. Ask why your country is a shithole country.”

@georgetakei I’ve added “Donald Trump flees to Russia to avoid prosecution” to my 2023 bingo card. Learned my lesson with Florida.

“Ask not who the shithole countries are. Ask why your country is a shithole country.”

@georgetakei
I think it's more of a matter of them being wicked, malicious and demonic rather than broken. They are not broken, they are behaving exactly how they intend to. They have broken everything and everyone else.
@georgetakei I was talking to a friend whose boyfriend is addicted to gambling. Lying, cheating, debts revealed. Magas are addicted.

@georgetakei

Completely… and I fail to understand why they would follow this crook…
Shame on them.

@georgetakei how could anyone possibly ignore this? honestly, I’m asking, because TFG and his crimes have been blasting from every screen, speaker, and page for the last 8 years, and I wish to goodness I could just SHUT IT OFF!
@georgetakei I never call them by that acronym any more because they haven't been "grand" for almost a century.
