People walked around standing up straight, "socializing" was face to face in person, the phone was attached to a cord at home or at work, there were a lot of paper references that had to be continually updated, if you wanted to know how to do something you had to find someone to teach you or look it up in the library, communicating with someone wasn't necessarily instantaneous, no one sat around in cafe's hunched over their computers
