well, it seems that, starting today (1st august 2023), Nintendo WFC's login servers are starting to go dead and returning the discontinued error code for all games, including the 3 remaining online ones

seems to be a gradual rollout, sometimes you can make it past login and fail svcloc, sometimes both work, but it's not looking good
all servers seem to be returning 20110 now. rip

#nintendo #nintendowii #wii #wfc #nintendowfc

there are 3 services i've seen return responses so far
pd42wfiap01 - error 20110
pd42wfiap02 - error 20110
pd42wfiap03 - still works, authentication goes through both login and svcloc

so if you're lucky enough to get load balanced onto server 3, you can play online. otherwise, SoL

Man.

(Rock Band screenshot included for posterity - Epic Games shut those servers down back in January, but you would get a different error)

@ipg They finally pulled the cod wii servers? I remember black ops 1 and mw3 were still working like a year or two ago but you had to use a code to bypass some nintendo thing
@Nintendont yes - i made those codes, it was actually an SDK bug that's been there since 2006 that sent 2 of the same Host header (which is not valid HTTP). the server accepted that just fine until some maintenance and a server upgrade in 2020 made those requests return a Bad Request error (HTTP 400 - Wii error 23400)
@ipg Damn that's really a shame. I played them both alot back in the day. Most people ignored them because they were cod games but black ops and mw3 wii really pushed the limits of the wii's online, having matchmaking, voice chat, text messages, a proper friend request system so you could add randoms. They were even going to try to have map pack dlc but that ended up getting cut with leftovers in the files of black ops 1

@Nintendont they (ab)used the DLC system to have title updates to fix some map bugs, it was crazy

sadly since 2019 you haven't been able to get those updates without installing a WAD
