@arstechnica this is great news :) no need to throw away controllers when you can easily repair them.

They should improve some of the design though, prying them open can be difficult. I'd prefer screws.

@gpowerf @arstechnica t.. Throw away?

(Only one of these still works)

@arstechnica Would very much welcome Nintendo to offer the same for repairing joy cons.
@vwbusguy @arstechnica That would interfere with Nintendo's brilliant plan to build disposable-quallity controllers and sell them $60/each.
@tob classic Nintendo. Making you buy the same thing’s you already paid for.
@Dwevil Unfortunately, Nintendo's calculation that their enjoyable and unique games will drag us kicking and screaming into their gross hardware ecosystem is mostly correct.
@vwbusguy @arstechnica tbh you can get halls from third parties. Nintendo should embrace the spirit of R2R, but I don’t think it’ll matter much when the controllers are garbage to begin with.
@arstechnica Welcome news! I have an Elite Series 2 that isn't registering RB presses. I saw on YouTube how to fix it out of warranty, but much happier to have official channels and parts availability rather than "bend an old piece of credit card" level fixes for an issue like this.
@arstechnica I need this to be available in Canada 🥲
@arstechnica Right To Repair 🔥🔥🔥
@arstechnica This is great. Kids can learn about electronics and we can reduce e-waste.
@arstechnica Finally something good
@arstechnica It's nice to see a big mainstream company going that way.
@photom @arstechnica They've been doing it for awhile. Check out what they did with the Surface laptops, they switched to using magnets combined with a few screws to remove the need for gluing it shut

@arstechnica

I do have an X1 controller for my PC with some worn action. Though until further notice I'm using my Stadia controller.

@arstechnica Will definitely be a money saver assuming I don’t break the controller any further 🤣
