August 29. Anniversary of both Katrina and Ida. Both changed lives forever. Mine was one. Lost my home of 27 years to Katrina because #AaronBroussard turned off our pumps. "pumps remained off for more than two days and sections of the parish, including Metairie and Kenner, experienced severe flooding as a result of rain water, backflow from Lake Pontchartrain and flood waters from the broken 17th Street Canal. Broussard defended his actions, saying that he wanted to protect the pump operators' lives, even though some pump operators were willing to stay. Other public officials, such as police and fire departments, did not evacuate. Water department workers also stayed."
@JudyOlo Oh, how devastating, I can’t imagine. I’m so sorry that happened to you!
@JudyOlo
So sorry for what you went through.
@callalily
Thank you. It still hurts that it was unnecessary. One man's stupid decision ruined hundreds of homes and lives. BUT, I try to think I am now in a better place. And I Am! Still, got to say, the soil for gardening in Kenner was AMAZING. Grew anything and everything, beaucoup. Have never had such a garden since. But, it's nice to be above sea level. I pay for flood insurance here; probably don't need it. But you never know 😊😊 Floods all over. Blistering hot -- here-- never ever before. Is there heat insurance now?
@JudyOlo I am so sorry you went through that. Purrs. It was a disaster made so much worse by people who had the responsibility to do better 😔
