August 29. Anniversary of both Katrina and Ida. Both changed lives forever. Mine was one. Lost my home of 27 years to Katrina because #AaronBroussard turned off our pumps. "pumps remained off for more than two days and sections of the parish, including Metairie and Kenner, experienced severe flooding as a result of rain water, backflow from Lake Pontchartrain and flood waters from the broken 17th Street Canal. Broussard defended his actions, saying that he wanted to protect the pump operators' lives, even though some pump operators were willing to stay. Other public officials, such as police and fire departments, did not evacuate. Water department workers also stayed."

Yet the myth remains. Blame the Gulf Coast. Raise THEIR rates. Let their premiums pay for a supposedly national program. #NFIP #FEMA How many across the country are told, hey, you need to get flood insurance? I've paid flood premiums for over 45 years. Out of those years, 27 were in a flood zone. 1 claim, because #AaronBroussard shut off the pumps. Not in flood zone now, yet they raised my rate. Why? Floods happening all over, yet only some areas are made to pay.
