man american society is obsessed with drinking.

i had to stop drinking a few years ago because 'one day my guts just decided for me, they dont appreciate booze anymore', and so we dont do breweries or wineries much or at all because it ends up just being a lot of sitting around.. and its hard to find stuff to do that isnt basically an excuse to just go drink at various places.

@Viss Same and same. BrewDog has some awesome NA beers and they have a taproom 15 minutes from my house, so that has become the default "go have a beer" location. But when you stop drinking you begin to realize how much advertising the booze industry jacks into the market. Sheesh, it's unbelievable. And how much people drink in TV shows. Those folks would have watched their liver pack it's things and move the fuck out.
@Sempf yeah its wild. Im not AGAINST drinking, i just find that sitting around and watching other people drink is a little boring and usually exclusionary. if you're not like everyone else holding a drink in your hand then its like you're not even there
@Viss I am not great in social situations anyway, so I avoid large groups. The people who I would normally "go get a beer" with all know, so it has been replaced with coffee or NA beer. I can't imagine trying to fit in at a loose social gathering without a drink. Would be ... weird.
@Sempf ive been pushing 'coffee and croissants', and so far its been landing well :D
@Viss Oh man I love me a croissant. 🥐
@Sempf same :D
