Content warning: A bit of advice on hashtags, NVIDIA vs. NVDA. Post text: If you're going to use the #NVDA hashtag, keep it to the NVDA screen reader only. NVDA, as well as being the name of a highly popular screen reader used by millions of blind/VI people around the world, is also the stock ticker symbol of graphics card manufacturer NVIDIA. If you're going to talk about NVIDIA, use the #NVIDIA hashtag. If you're going to talk about the NVDA screen reader, use the #NVDA hashtag. It helps avoid unnecessary noise and confusion.
@seedy There was also another acronym that came out to NVDA, which is why folks on birdsite used #NVDASR
@seedy So what's the difference between #NVDA and #NVDASR, or is the latter just another way of getting around the NVidia problem?
@Tarrenvane NVDASR just seems a bit redundant to me. Same with JFW or JAWS for Windows; that's what we were calling it back in the 90s when JAWS for DOS was a thing. That's just my view.
@seedy @Tarrenvane I saw #NVDA used in a couple of posts about protests etc, and it took awhile to work out they were using it for "Non-violent direct action", which seems even more niche than using the stock market code for NVIDIA. As you say, keeping the hashtags to their main uses helps everyone though. Similarly #NVDAsr was often used on the bird site, but again, very niche - many people wanting to talk about the screen reader wouldn't know to use that so use #NVDA because it is obvious
