It is unacceptable to ban workers from wearing the protection they need to do their jobs safely. Every state in the country must pass laws like those in California that protect the right of employees to mask.

In-N-Out and Other California Workplaces Can't Prevent Employees From Wearing Masks, Regulators Say | KQED

The iconic California burger joint can't implement an employee mask ban in its home state, where COVID-19 workplace rules allow workers to decide for themselves whether to wear face coverings — at least until February 2025.

@luckytran and customers, for that matter

I can't tell you how many times I get harassed at my own credit union for wearing a mask, trying to access cash in my accounts, while their ATMs remain out of service.

Last time the teller ran though like 8-10 personal questions to identify myself. I am literally not joking or exaggerating. This a credit union in a supposedly progressive city and state.

edit: TO ACCESS LESS THAN 100 OF MY OWN DOLLARS

@luckytran
Counterpoint: Every state in the country must pass laws (enforce existing laws) that employers need to provide a safe workplace reasonably free of hazards
@luckytran That's why their rule is not in effect in California.
@luckytran I am beginning to think there must be something in the water. There seems to be so much insanity and hate in everyone right now. I would say that the mice made some big mistake in their planning and need to start over.

@luckytran

But doesn't the flavor of in n out come from the sheen of sputum from employees sneezing on their burgers?

@path72 @luckytran As a native of Southern California I always thought the company name meant eating one left you spewing it back out from both ends.

@luckytran I had this conversation with a recruiter yesterday by e-mail. I assume they are banning masks because they never answered my question lol

I can’t imagine anyone is willing to get airborne aids for a 20 hour a week job.

@maggiemaybe @luckytran Please don't call it airborne AIDS.

We're on track to eliminate AIDS as a serious threat in less than ten years, whereas our goal seems to be to maximize the spread of Long COVID in less than five.

@luckytran There is no end to the corporate greed. We can't have people afraid of a contagious, life threatening disease because they won't come out and spend money!
@luckytran fuck in n out for this

@luckytran

They're a food service industry, they should always be prioritizing cleanliness and safety of employee & customer interactions.

This weird ban they're trying to impose does neither. Thousands of people through their doors every day, it's really a ridiculous hill for the c-suite to die on. Masks should be allowed even outside of a pandemic for all the same reasons.

@drinks
Yeah, even in the context of normal (non-plague) times this is a ridiculous policy. Especially coming from a business that almost certainly disincentivizes employees from staying home from work when ill.

@luckytran

@luckytran Super bummed to hear this about In-n-Out. In my opinion, we should normalize mask wearing everywhere the way they do in Asia. If someone wants or needs to wear a mask for whatever reason, they should be able to do so without stigma.
