Regarding:
"We need to address the funding shortages that cause extreme financial stress on the people critical to building the software that powers the fediverse."
"Perhaps this is where VCs and large for-profits can step up?"
FWIW, #SpaceHost will be giving a portion of our net revenue to the developers who create the Fediverse software we are hosting β on an ongoing basis.

.
For example β
If someone hosts a #Pixelfed instance with #SpaceHost β #SpaceHost will give a portion of the net revenue to the Pixelfed developer(s) on an ongoing basis.
If someone hosts a #Firefish instance with #SpaceHost β #SpaceHost will give a portion of the net revenue to the Firefish developer(s) on an ongoing basis.
If someone hosts a #Lemmy instance with #SpaceHost β #SpaceHost will give a portion of the net revenue to the Lemmy developer(s) on an ongoing basis.
Etc.
We are also in the middle of creating something to help financially support the people who operate Fediverse server instances.
...
We want the Fediverse to continue to exist, we want it to grow, and we want it to stay decentralized.
And we know that for that to happen, the Fediverse needs to be economically viable for the people who make it exist.
