@starcross I personally think it does not matter, because Steam will update itself. I'm not entirely sure how the Flatpak works, but I'm on an Arch based system (EndeavourOS) and Steam updates without a system update. So you only install it once through the installer, but it manages itself, as the installer is just initial install with pacman.
Some people prefer Steam installed through Flatpak, but I don't know why exactly. It shouldn't matter.

@starcross For arch I would go with the native package just because it's so well supported on the distro
For literally every other distro though, the flatpak is probably the best choice
