Apart from the people directly responsible for making the damned things, no-one I know likes #Snaps, and most people would eradicated them completely from their systems if it were at all practicable without completely hosing their installation.

I need to move away from Ubuntu. It's a shame. 10 years ago it was the best distro by far, then they took some very odd turns. (Unity, X/Wayland/Mir/Wayland, Snaps...) And we don't talk about the Ubuntu 'phone that was just a marketing flyer.

I *hate* #snaps. And all similar package formats along that line.

#Linux #distributions are great *because the packages are made to work together*. That's the absolute basic thing.

Snaps are just some weird BS to try and reduce marginally the packager's burden at the cost of massive usability issues and fundamental #integration problems.

Started experimenting with #canonical #snapcraft + #docker #container mix for a not-necessarily-edge-usecase scenario at work, and honestly I'm kinda surprised how well it works. I mean, I've been using #snaps on #ubuntu for years now (ever since they are the default on the desktop), and even though I'm pro-containerization, I never thought much of them (neither positive nor negative), but it's honestly well documented, and simple to use. Might even revisit and "snapify" some old solutions πŸ€”
