First attempt at receiving an NOAA #satellite APT downlink. This was #NOAA15. Not sure where I went wrong. It sounded like a very strong signal for about half the pass but this certainly doesn't look like it. I recorded directly out of the radio in to a Sony voice recorder. I had all the various features disabled so the recorder shouldn't have messed with the audio at all. Anyone have any ideas?
@kf4hzu Certainly, looks like the signal wasnt strong enough for you, but also you need least 40khz FM, so scanner bandwidth rather than ham radio 15khz.
Could also be noise being picked up, or CPU loading getting in the way.
Many options as to why it went wrong!
@MM0INH Hmm the bandwidth thing I didn't realize. That may be the biggest issue. Not sure if the HT I was using can do that. I know it has 12.5khz and 25khz FM deviation options and I had it set to 25. CPU loading would only apply to an SDR or live decoding. As I mentioned I recorded the AF output via a cable from the radio to a Sony recorder. Thanks for the info!
@kf4hzu yup. Bandwidth, any crappy scanner will do tho, audio out to the PC will work.
But a cheap sdr dongle is easy and flexible.
