I just finished my first long road trip since installing iOS 17 and I really felt the lack of a StandBy-esque CarPlay mode when you put your phone into a horizontal dashboard mount. I’ve gotten very fond of StandBy in the house, so it seems only right that there would be a similar mode when in the Driving focus mode.
@_Davidsmith what happens if you’re not in driving focus and pop it sideways
@_Davidsmith just realised I typed this whilst pulled over in the car in this exact scenario. Tested it… black screen hahaha
@_Davidsmith did you have any issues? Is the iOS 17 more less ready for daily use? I’m thinking of switching to it in a week or so…
@_Davidsmith For it's one if not THE best feature in iOS 17
@_Davidsmith android has had this for years too, surprised apple hasn’t done it or even made it so you could use an old iPod touch for it
@_Davidsmith I ended up creating my own homescreen of widgets for a driving focus mode. Massive tap targets for ease of access works pretty well as an alternative!
@b3ll @_Davidsmith Interesting idea. Do you mind sharing a screenshot? Thanks 😀

@Bracl @_Davidsmith one example screen: maps widget is pretty good at suggesting where I need to go to based on usage (work, gym, etc.) so it’s often a 1 tap

Albums I have as shortcuts to heavy rotations or shuffled from my collection which are also 1 tap to play

@_Davidsmith That would be great for us people who don’t have CarPlay.
@_Davidsmith I am travelling now. Standby is addicting. I need to find a little portable travel stand for the nightstand in the hotel.
@_Davidsmith I have had success putting the phone in standby before starting the car (before Bluetooth connects). I haven’t customized Standby, tough, so I just see an analog clock and calendar. The notifications are better than standard iOS notifications. Low bar?
