Is a full frame f1.2 lens totally impractical?
Yes
Do I still want one?
Also yes
@jerry ahhhhh. do it!

I've got a sigma f/1.4 fullframe that I got ages ago for my 5dm2, and it's doing wonders on my 6dm2.

having a 1.2 would be crazy! albeit limited use cases
@thegpfury β€œfor when you only need the tip of the cornea to be in focus, trust the f1.2”
@thegpfury also, stopping down a bit to f1.8 would probably make for some glorious pictures
@jerry For sure! in another life I used it a lot at 2 for weddings, and got some dreamy photos.

@jerry Should going from f1.4 to f1.2 be worth $1500? Probably not.

Am I still considering it? Absolutely.

@jerry Would that happen to be the Canon RF 1.2L?
@jonathan I have a Nikon z9, so looking at the z 85mmf1.2s
@jerry Nice! I like my Sigma 85 for my Sony. It's great for portraits. Just picked up a small 35mm 1.8 and it was so nice for walking around.

@jonathan @jerry I have the EF (50 mm) version. Fantastic lens.

Nikon is for, well, you know what you are.

@jerry hah this is the process I go through when buying a lot of stuff πŸ˜‚
@jerry What’s the point of owning only practical things anyway
@jerry I got bit by the telephoto bug back in 2010. Bought a 100-400, many a bird and plane photos were had
@jerry At east they're easier to build for that Nikon Z mount.

@jerry it is not totally impractical :D

full frame sensor + f1.2 50mm prime = epic

@jerry NOT impractical :) what’s the length tho?
@jerry You know you want that f/0.95. And you know we want to live vicariously through your photos with it.
@jerry *whistles in f0.95 MFT*
@perigrin β€œthe front half of the skin pore is in focus and the back half is completely blended into the bokeh”
@jerry the 17.5mm goes blurry right about my ears but "yes" … it is however almost perfect for my Zoom setup as long as I don't move too much
@jerry the 25mm I use a lot for street photography, I really love the lenses even when they make no practical sense.
@perigrin nice. I use a 14-24f2.8 on my z30, which does a decent job of blurring the background and keeping me in focus as I move around. I have been considering a 35mmf1.8 for that to amp up the blur a bit
@jerry I'm using Lumix G9 which isn't known for it's autofocus … and having used the 12-35 leica on it … I can see why. I'm moving back to the fully manual 17.5mm f0.95 voightlander when I remember to take it back upstairs.

Unemployment has significantly reduced my Zoom/Meet time.
