Again and again, I have to say, Mastodon has better engagement than Twitter, BlueSky, Threads, Facebook, Post.news or Reddit
@palafo
I, too, find this true.
@palafo 🥥 That's been my experience as well, Patrick. 🥥
@palafo its amazing how civil something can be when you remove motivation for views/likes/retweets and advertising and just talk with people

@palafo

I am definitely happy here. I don't get enraged. I don't have the adrenaline or dopamine hits from getting included or excluded. I don't feel as rushed to respond. I still respond quicker than I need to but there is a pressure missing I can't explain.

@JustMe @palafo I still argue, but I’m more accepting of criticism (and more moderate with my own) here, because

a) even opponents are here for good reasons (at the moment).

b) I actually want to be a decent fedizen, that makes the place a more attractive choice

@JustMe @palafo
Yes! The lack of pressure is a big part of it.

It took me months to drop the expectation that I had to be en guarde when engaging with people I didn't know.

@palafo @glennf Yep, but don’t tell that to the people still clinging to elons little fascist walled garden or you’re likely to be masto’splaining
@palafo Agreed. And I wasn't even having too disagreeable of a time pre-Musk purchase of Twitter, but now on this side of everything I'm definitely feeling much more upbeat and less flustered. Plus it feels great to support the open web and "indie" operators.
@palafo @mastodonmigration And yet, so few mainstream media mentions. Hmm. #msnbc #cnn #journalism
@palafo It’s almost as if real humans produce a better human experience than bots or “influencers” trying to game algorythms … 🤯
@palafo, naturally, it's not mainstream with mainstream people
@palafo you have nearly 7,000 followers though. It’s kind of a different sphere
@palafo I went from 2k to 300 and it's still better :')
@B_Whitewind @palafo i think it matters to consider how many of those were actually useful. collecting followers on platforms that knock out your content through algorithms makes them largely like reddit upvotes; completely without substance.
@palafo absolutely 💯 the quality of engagement here is unparalleled.
@palafo Honestly, I'm on a small instance, with not that many people following me and both on this account and my art only account (both having less followers than my equivalent accounts on twitter), and for the most part, it definitely holds true.

Maybe less favourites and retoots (yet, which is pretty much expected), but overall way more comments, feedbacks, discussions, etc.

And overall a waaaaay more pleasant time here.

@palafo you might define ‘engagement’ differently to me but I’ve noticed it’s much more normal to have polite and friendly conversations on Mastodon

I am new to Bluesky and have noticed it is the same as Twitter: if someone doesn’t know you they often ignore your reply

Here I feel more welcome to engage with posts by replying, and I will reply to people’s replies to me

@palafo Threads isn't available in my country, Post I think is mobile only, BlueSky seems to need an invitation and the rest are circling the drain. Mastodon feels about right.
@palafo really doubt the Reddit part
@palafo i just dont get that here. Maybe I do not engage enough, but my posts are basically dead here.
@EricMEagan @palafo It takes a little time. It was the same for me the first few months and gradually it’s picked up. Kind of like being the new kid in school, no one knows you but you slowly find your people and they find you.
@mrwalter @palafo yep- been here since april of 2022
@palafo
Does not. I'm not even commenting on this post, pfft.

@palafo totally.

I don't have particularly notable accounts on Twitter or Masto, but had more followers on Twitter than here. Similar engagement though, and usually higher quality.

Like there's no feeling of "oh God, what now?" with an unread notificaiton here.

Must admit I'd a long running interest in BlueSky but once I made the shift here I never followed up on getting an account - so can't compare to there.

@palafo i don't even understand how the algorithms are supposed to be used. i never even look at that type of content on any of the mentioned sites and go straight to where i was planning to go; which with the algorithms and ads, made it more cumbersome.

but i'm an old IT fancier, who still worship the likes of IRC and XMPP, etc. I only use mainstream social media to reach out to my mainstream hobbies like aquarium, poultry, and gardening since there is no such activity on FOSS networks.

@palafo

Again and again I would agree with you.

@palafo it does. But what it doesn’t yet have are all those tiny tendrils that link very small community groups and individuals. Here’s hoping that one day it will.
@palafo well twitter is just full of race hate that's allowed but yet you open your mouth to them then get banned for community standards
@palafo Yep, definitely! This has been my experience as well!
@palafo maybe better engagement but definitely not more reach.
