I'm trying out all the microblogging alternatives and Mastodon deserves way more credit than it gets for having a lot of great people pleasers already baked in: Editable messages, the Tweetdeck-like advanced web interface, a chronological feed.
@drewharwell Also solid mobile apps w/ no ads and chronological feeds
@Brandon Yes, love the freedom / customization of using different fediverse clients too
@drewharwell @Brandon I can't believe how good it is in browser on mobile.
@drewharwell I'm really rooting for it now. There's too many random startup clones floating around. I'm really hoping threads gets a desktop version and fediverse interaction ASAP. Feels like that could really be the killer to Twitter.
@danielellis @drewharwell Isn’t Threads just moving from one megalomaniac’s site to another?
(Mastodon newbie. Like it so far.)

@ara642040 @drewharwell

IMO Musk has somehow done the impossible and made Mark Zuckerberg look like a normal human being.

That being said, there's a reason I haven't created a Threads account. I want the fediverse integration so that I can follow people on threads without having to make an account over there.

@drewharwell One thing that's really helping me finally cut ties are the mirror accounts (e.g. bird.makeup). It's really easy to follow the accounts I follow on Twitter on Mastodon now. Of course, it's only one way, and I normally really like the two-way interactions, but it's better than nothing until other people make the switch.
@danielellis @drewharwell can you tell me some more about bird.makeup?
@brndnpink @drewharwell I only just learned about it today. It looks like there are a number of alternative services, but basically they seem to just copy tweets and retweets from public accounts over to mastodon. So if you follow someone on twitter named "foo", you can follow them on mastodon by following [email protected] (or any of other mirror services).
@danielellis @drewharwell I’ve been playing around with this for a bit and it's phenomenal, thanks for the recommendation!
@brndnpink @drewharwell Glad you like it! Definitely a game changer for me too.
@drewharwell lack of ads is also a delightful element. Free of that bloat, and rooted in good conversation.
@drewharwell EXACTLY why it's my favorite.
@drewharwell need as a better search function now
@drewharwell These, and no sponsored posts or algorithms forcing unwanted content into my feed.

@drewharwell

I particularly like Mastodon now that I figured out this trick: when I start following someone, I click the bell ("notification") so that every time they post it appears in my notifications feed.

Then I can quickly decide whether to keep it that way, or dial it back to just "follow" (without the automatic notification), or unfollow.

@drewharwell Plus no ads and a great user base
Hey @drewharwell , out of curiosity which other ones you've tried so far? Bless.
@drewharwell I think I'm missing the Tweetdeck-like interface. How do I see that?
@drewharwell Disregard - found in the settings. YES!

@drewharwell
Glad you've come back. I was sorry to see you go back to that foul site after your account got suspended although if they'd give me mine back I might go.

I re-appealed after ELoon took over, but they don't seem too interested in Antifa over there and I don't have a big enough following or something for them to worry over little ol' me.

Just as well, #Mastodon is better. For-profit social media is, well it's anti-social.

@drewharwell The editing aspect is my favorite
