Every single thing conservatives are mad about can fit into three categories:

1) things they made up entirely
2) things caused by conservatism
3) things that are none of their goddamn business

@sbelikeswords give them some credit, they can mix and match as well.
@MyLittleMetroid @sbelikeswords
They are particularly adept at causing problems to prove the stuff they made up about stuff that's none of their business. #ConservativeStrawmanHatTrick
@sbelikeswords 4) things the right wing press have told them to be angry about
@IndyRichard @sbelikeswords Yes, but I bet that would also fall under 1-3
@ariaflame @sbelikeswords Yes you probably right.
@IndyRichard @ariaflame @sbelikeswords
I don’t know man, that one probably Deserves a special category since it’s such a multiplier.
@sbelikeswords this is so true. And it's why I haven't talked to my family in 7 years. 🙄 It's a PROBLEM in this country. The lies and such they pass around via Facebook or whatever, but then the stuff from their phony "Christianity" where they preach but don't practice that's been going around pre-internet.. It's exhausting
@jake4480 not sure what country you're from, but I get ya
@sbelikeswords the USA. But I understand right wing fascist crap is still spreading everywhere, despite Europe's supposed safeguards against this kind of thing that happened there in the 1940s, yknow? 😕
@jake4480 @sbelikeswords
I am from Germany, we are not yet as divided as you are in the US, but especially in the past weeks multiple leading politicians of the well established conservative party have been talking about the possibility of cooperating with the fascist party which just jumped up in the polls and would now get 20% of the votes😬
And commercial right-wing desinformation media are playing an important role in this, just like in the US.
Fucking scary...
@Hippie @sbelikeswords wow. It's awful. I just don't understand it. Is it when people are struggling financially and then the media adds in the fear, they turn to fascism? I just don't get it. It's disgusting.
@jake4480 I think it's exactly that. It's a deeply embedded reaction to fear. Seek out a "strong" leader or group to feel safe(r). FEEL. It's lizard brain stuff. That's why it works. We are a tribal species.
@sbelikeswords 4) Things humanity could benefit from.
@sbelikeswords Inflation
@HKissanger frustration about inflation is hardly unique to conservatives
@sbelikeswords You did not say things conservatives were *uniquely* mad about and the implication isn't there.
@HKissanger it should be obvious, otherwise you could say WELL I KNOW A CONSERVATIVE WHOSE MAD WHEN HE STUBBED HIS TOE LAST WEEK or something else asinine but whatever
@HKissanger @sbelikeswords
In Canada, that falls under #2. (Probably US as well, but the phrase "Trudeau inflation" has become part of the Canadian conservative lexicon.)
@geobeck I believe the phrase is "Justinflation" :P
@sbelikeswords number 4 is taxes, unless it goes to the military then they're horny as shit for it
@mikemc303 @sbelikeswords
I was listening to a podcast and an author was on who has spent time with millionaire/billionaires discussing their bunkers...
They implied that their bunkers would be protected by Navy Seals and they are trying to make sure they are loyal to their bunkers.
The whole conversation was disturbing but their inclusion of the military into their plan made my heart sink.
@sbelikeswords
4. things that actual philosophical conservatives would be fighting to conserve

@sbelikeswords

Full agreement....
Wtf is the matter with these maga goons? Illiterates or just plain nasty?

@sbelikeswords

Conservatives live in a delusional world where they are * told * what to fear or what to be mad about.

Yesterday it was women's skirts that showed "too much" ankle, today it is the risks posed by women with the vote, trans people living their lives free(ish) of bigotry posed by religious zealots, & democracies alarmed by the climate denialism funded by oil billionaires.

They are authoritarian in their mindset & told to expect folks to participate in their wingnut worldview.

@Npars01 @sbelikeswords It's all fear based, and I dare say a lot of it has to do with organized religion, or at least it's used as a justification for bigotry.

@invispace @sbelikeswords

Organized religion can do data modeling too. Their inability and unwillingness to protect children from the sexual predators within their midst is sending people away in droves. They fund attacks on the civil rights of women, trans, and POC.
https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/7/15/2181390/-Republican-Sexual-Predators-Abusers-and-Enablers-Pt-44

Like the Republican Party, they face a demographic cliff where they've deliberately alienated women, POC, and the young. Now they face the consequences.

Republican Sexual Predators, Abusers, and Enablers Pt. 44

This is the 44th installment in the list of Republican sexual predators, abusers, and enablers who contribute to rape culture. These are people who abused their power or defended the abuse of power. These are not folks caught in consensual scandals...

Daily Kos
@Npars01 @invispace @sbelikeswords they would have to admit to the evil in their midst and their role in enabling and hiding it

@Npars01

Religious institutions invariably accuse others of being child abusers to hide the fact that religious organizations are the prime perpetuators of child sexual abuse.

@invispace @sbelikeswords @Npars01

@sbelikeswords
#2 covers a lot of ground. Every time a conservative cries "Look what *they're* doing!" they might as well be pointing at a mirror.
@geobeck @sbelikeswords thieves and liars, think everybody is a thief and a liar.
@sbelikeswords I can find people in my family that fit all three.
@sbelikeswords number 2 should be “things they do but project onto others”
@sbelikeswords
4) jealousy of people who can be comfortable with themselves

@sbelikeswords

the vast majority is #1

They make up shit to scare themselves --> get scared --> vote for bigots that favor the rich and hurt the communities of the fools that vote for them

@sbelikeswords I would add 4) things they do that they accuse liberals of doing.
@sbelikeswords reading the New Republic’s Barbie review I feel like “things they failed to adequately understand” should be here somewhere
@sbelikeswords “Death panels” was an entirely made-up issue, too. Tellingly, they never even bring the idea up anymore.
@sbelikeswords Nailed it! And all delivered/amplified through Fear Porn. I’ve decided these people are addicted to being afraid.
@adriennelacava @sbelikeswords maybe addicted to being outraged and fear is the fuel. I feel like a lot of people are looking for justification for violence, and self defense against Those Others is a compelling narrative.

@sbelikeswords You forgot #4- Things they are doing themselves.

If they say democrats have an agenda- that means they have one. If they say democrats are stealing the election, that means they are trying to. Etc.

@sbelikeswords Conservatives are mad. What the fuck is up with that? They’re mad at everything all the time. Like spoiled children.

@sbelikeswords if you like to make it easier ... Hate and greed

eliminate, hate and greed !

Hugz & xXx

@sbelikeswords *Stuff they are actively projecting about...
@sbelikeswords I see you summed up the book "The Rhetoric of Reaction" pretty well!
@sbelikeswords

The best is when they scream "SEE!" and it's for something that happened on their watch or as a consequence of something they did.
@sbelikeswords that's true, but I just call them fascists.
@sbelikeswords and of course most of these things tend to be all three at once lmao
@sbelikeswords and 4) things that they refuse to understand

@sbelikeswords
#2 is most of it. Its almost always projection.

Cancel culture? - 🤔 Florida, Texas
Pedophilia? - 🤔 Church groomers
Corruption in govt? - 🤔 TFG
Trimming the deficit? - 🤔 TFG tax cuts
Hunter Biden? - 🤔 Kushner + Saudis

@sbelikeswords more than that. They have mythical world views with no basis in reality.

@sbelikeswords
Well, you might add one more thing to the list. The right wing now just wants to justify their racism. And when they can not do that, they get mad. Cue Jason Aldean and his nonsense...

Although I would agree that in that case the made up part is the myth that small towns are all about unity and looking out for one another. That is utter BS. And he didn't even grow up in a small town.

@sbelikeswords I just wonder why they think the sky is falling but is actually not happening. They're worse than liberals..
