Again, I am left flabbergasted that one man's beef with his bank has become a matter of national importance. Farage is like the Pied Piper when it comes to the News Cycle. Whistle and they follow.
@EmmaKennedy I don’t get it. The bank decides that having a quasi-fascist on their books is bad for their image. The bank is a business like any other. They’re entitled to ditch a customer. Meanwhile there are important things to deal with that are much larger and more important than Farage’s ego.
@IChewPorridge @EmmaKennedy it's the gay wedding cake thing. One rule me, another for thee.

@EmmaKennedy

A Rent-A-Gob you don't even have to pay, gives good head-lines with the possibility of outrage, all for clicks.

@EmmaKennedy right. I mean, who cares? The actual general level of service provided by banks and their few remaining branches is a much bigger issue affecting far more people and there’s nary a squeak. I queued in one high street bank yesterday for a total of 45 minutes and what happened to other ‘customers’ in that time was eye opening. My own experience was also rubbish. Late state capitalism doesn’t care about you because the big companies know their competitors are equally crap.
@gulfie @EmmaKennedy That absolutely seems to be it... a settling to the bottom, take it or leave it mind set with no alternative for weary, disheartened customers
@EmmaKennedy I think he is particularly offended because the bank doesn't consider him wealthy enough for a wealth-management bank.
@joaogranjacorreia @EmmaKennedy
Given his politics I expect the assessment of Farage covered his ability to earn enough to sustain a wealth account in the future & Coutts clearly doesn't rate him. Much as most of the thinking public.
@EmmaKennedy It is a matter of principle. Farage is wrong on most things, but right on this one.

@richardtol @EmmaKennedy

From what little I've seen I think you're probably right that he is probably right - but this misses Emma's point - which is why it's all over the national news.

But I'd go further - it's not just that the media loves Farage - it's that they love celebrity, and thus continually submerge and trivialise vitally important information - as they did recently by allowing a Sun non-story about a celebrity newsreader to dominate the airwaves over the very days the Earth was breaking temperature records again and again.

Forget Nigel Farage and Coutts – banks have been locking ordinary people out of accounts for years

This is a rich person’s row. But as a debt adviser, I’ve seen clients’ lives upended when they are denied access to a basic bank account, says debt adviser Amy Taylor

The Guardian
@EmmaKennedy my thought exactly. People get banking and accounts refused all the time. Overblown self-important twat. Platforming him was a serious contribution by the media to screw the Brexit result. Nothing learned.

@EmmaKennedy Coutts correctly predicted that he'd play the professional victim card as soon as the downgraded him.

Can't argue against Rose having to go after revealing his details.

In terms of account closures - he mentioned a FB group of 10k that claim they've had accounts wrongly closed. Given that NatWest have 7.5m customers, that's 0.13%. Granted that if people have been wrongly closed, they should appeal.

I notice that MP's are thinking of weakening the fraud measures that banks take. I'm sure they'll be the first to complain if they then end up being targeted by fraudsters.

Also - shame the government don't exhibit this kind of energy to running the country in general.

@EmmaKennedy the real story is not that a fascist has been turned down by a bank, it’s that the CEO leaked private information to the media, which they published, both breaking the law. THAT’S the story. That is what we should be angry about.
@EmmaKennedy
Ignore the infant. He thrives on any kind of publicity, so don't give him ANY !
@EmmaKennedy I notice this mention of money laundering legislation has suddenly snuck in to Farage's complaints.

@alanbrookland @EmmaKennedy well if his pal Panama Davie & his late dad had a go that's where the what was he called GRIFTER?
Ucrap OR as the gruniad says "Nige was Funded by IoM based insurance geezer!" *

But offshoring is common in the ministerial cohorts see Nadhim Zahawi MP (the one that tried to get tax payers expenses for the stables of his OFFSHORE FUNDED mansion oh! He's a useful minister being the founder of the pollster YOUGOV lovely jubley! Eh???

@EmmaKennedy Jeez, yes. We've all got beef with our banks (well, not with @HANDELSBANKEN obv).
And most of us havent done anything like as much damage to the UK as fishface.
@EmmaKennedy
That light aircraft crash on election day in 2010 was a real sliding doors moment.
@EmmaKennedy I find it amusng that rightwing commentators who are normally deadset against #humanrights are arguing that having a bank account is an essential freedom which should not be denied anyone
@EmmaKennedy what’s even more astonishing is the one-time pound shop Trump’s attempt to reinvent himself as a pound shop Martin Lewis
@EmmaKennedy we are not a serious country and none of our problems are ever dealt with. 😞
@EmmaKennedy Agree completely. I refuse to watch the news when he comes on.
@EmmaKennedy just ignore todays dead cat story The Tories are The Brexit Party is the real story
