Supporting Open Source and Open Science in the EU AI Act – Open Future

Today — together with Hugging Face, Eleuther.ai, LAION, GitHub, and Creative Commons, we publish a statement on Supporting Open Source and Open Science in the EU AI Act. We strongly believe that open source and open science are the building blocks of trustworthy AI and should be promoted in the EU.

Open Future
Our statement proposes applying baseline requirements that ensure meaningful transparency, data governance, technical documentation, and risk assessment to all foundation models "put into service" or "made available on the market." We argue that the remaining requirements that call for increased institutional capacity should only apply when such models are deployed commercially.
#OpenDevelopment practices help uphold European values, democratic control, and scientific research practices.
@openfuture #ImageDescription A representation of data-gobbling? A pair of forearms made of pixellated colours, whose hands are in the process of breaking a block of similar pixellated colour (chocolate-bar style) into a black hole.

@lime_green_gnome is this your suggestion on how to describe the image? It is pretty accurate!
