@Wanderbot Yeah, this feels so right...

It feels like a lot of of the value of social media is unlocked when there's one place that "everyone" is. Which means that "indie" sites that don't growth-hack never get there. But the same stuff the companies need to do to try to get to be the "one place everyone goes" naturally makes that place turn to shit, because it means optimizing for engagement and stickiness above all else (and aggressively monetizing.)

I'm not a creator at all, I just read and boost things, my approach has just been to sign up for half a dozen different sites and see what interesting stuff there is in different places, but that's a heck of a lot easier when I'm just looking for a few people to follow to kill time on the internet and am not counting on a following to make a living.
