Hmmm... I'm trying my darndest to get Twitter users to at least consider trying Mastodon. :") I know many mutuals who would be happy here rather than jumping onto another corporate/exploitative social media, but sometimes it feels like I'm talking to a brick wall. I speak from observing the cycle of corporate social media for 10+ years.

Bsky/Threads/Instagram/Etc are the "easier" options despite being detrimental to the future of networking. Sigh.

@Snewdraws I've been trying to use .art's ban against AI and NFT stuff to lure over my artist friends, but not only a few have listened so far. Maybe I should've told them about the blobfox emotes instead
@Dreamstroph It shocks me that artists are picking a platform that has openly announced that they use posts to train AI!?!? (Bluesky) They are voluntarily feeding their artwork right into the AI machine. Arghh it makes me wanna scream >_<
@Snewdraws I guess they consider it the "safe" option among the socials that are available due to its popularity. A lot of the artists I know do this for a living, so I guess they're prioritizing whichever platform might net them more clients :/ Still, I'll keep recommending .art to anyone who will listen. It's just been so chill here and I love it
@Dreamstroph @Snewdraws tbh, i saw artists with 1.5k on mastodon getting more filled commissions than on their 30k twitter accounts, so i guess they should focus on which platform will make they interact more with the artist, which as i saw mastodon looks like that platform

@Dreamstroph @Snewdraws It's a combination of that, and BS and Hive released a statement that swears up and down "yes we feed all of your content to this AI, but we're not generating anything with it, we're just using it to tag and automod everything you submit".

Sure. I'll buy that with Hive's track record behind that statement...

Then there's also folks forgetting that Bluesky takes a very minimalist approach to....violent/hateful political activities. They give you a slider to turn on/off as to whether or not you wanna see it. Nothing more. Either people are willing to accept blind eyes or have just forgotten that. This after a month of Rainbow Capitalists quickly folding and disappearing in response to threats from those people...? Nah. BS ain't it.

@Snewdraws Also can I just say that this is frickin adorable lmao
@Dreamstroph LOL ty :3 My Ipad is broken atm so I had to draw this on paper
@Snewdraws I totally get it. I hate everytime there's an alternative that shows up and everyone jumps in blindly as in the twitter-ender, but it's like, the same scheme?
I've tried things (artfol, inkblot..) but nothing comes close to the amount of interactions I got from here. It feels so nice to get kind words from people and see your art perform way better than in any social platform you've tried so far.
It makes me want to interact more with people, and I say this as an anxious and shy gal๐Ÿ˜…

@Llieka I thought I would be happy with an art-focused website like dA/Inkblot/Etc, but the modern internet doesn't work well with artists using separate sites away from a general audience. I feel like this is the best option we got, as it still fosters a healthy art community while allowing non-artists from other communities to view and appreciate our work. Best of both worlds!

I really want more people to consider Mastodon a viable option, I find artists really enjoy it here once they try it.

@Snewdraws Exactly my thoughts โ˜บ๏ธ It also feels like you're not pressurised into interacting or frequent posting or else your account is thrown into the void and that is such a good thing

@Snewdraws I feel yah. Iโ€™m tired of watching my platforms burn to the ground due to corporate bullshit. Iโ€™m really excited about Mastodon but it seems hard to get people to try it for some reason.

Just wait I guess?

@snoleopar @Snewdraws the only point that i can put at is lack of advertising? other platforms seems to attract others better, for some reason, and the only point that i could put at is lack of awareness, or artists seeing as another pointless option, which is far from the truth
@Snewdraws Mastodon has a lot of bumps to overcome, it's already been around for several years and it still doesn't function as intuitively as Twitter did even in 2009. It's not a good look. I genuinely want it to do better but it will remain niche if the community sit on their hands.
@Snewdraws I actually only joined masto on a whim. I wasn't planning on staying, but I like trying new things and after a couple weeks on... I really liked it? So I guess that's one person's perspective, kinda make it like a trying out a new thing deal. However, I also immediately ran into issues. The first two servers I tried joining where manual accept so it took two days. I just joined mas.to in the end because it was easier.

@Snewdraws wish I had a platform to promote people to come here. I generally just ask artists or others if they have a mastadon as well (in a *hint hint* kind of way)

I believe the person that makes a bluesky/mastadon bridge app (where if you post you post to both at the same time) will do well, and will kind of allow artists and others to naturally pivot over to here.

@Snewdraws I interacted with your post on Twitter in hopes to spread the message
@Snewdraws it genuinely has been really frustrating / upsetting to see, even though technically i understand that most are doing it probably because all the non-artists are flocking to those places more too.. sighs

@Snewdraws Right? I try laying out in as neutral, non-hostile/edgy language as I can why those other options are just gonna be more of the same problems we all complain about at one point or another. And they just seem to want to go back to "normalcy" of having those those general problems but not a site collapsing on itself under a single egotistical billionaire.

Even when I really illustrate how Mastodon isn't as fragmented or hard to use as people think it is, they shift to "well Mastodon is kinda sus, I hear lots of people with shitty politics fund it", y'know the crypto techbro or lib-right crowds. As if the entire thing is one singular entity, despite laying out the above, that it's NOT, we're varied, and able to block out the shitters and aren't owned by one all-powerful shitter.

It really is talking to a brick wall sometimes.

@Snewdraws it worked for me! I missed chatting with you and seeing your lovely art! Itโ€™s super nice here so far too!
