@settern I sincerely doubt you can speak to this: but whatā€™s the over/under on actually getting a dev kit? Seems like they are limited to paid dev accounts and Iā€™m weighing the value of upgrading my personal account to paid for the chance of getting one. If weā€™re talking one in 10ā€¦ I think Iā€™m doing it. 1 in 100 or 1000ā€¦ ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

@jamie_blumberg You're correct :) In general, I'm encouraging anyone who's actively developing a visionOS app who needs to test things beyond the simulator to apply for a lab or a developer kit ā€” so really depends on your needs!

@settern Well thereā€™s *need* to test and thereā€™s *really really really* want to test. (Though of course testing any app really is enhanced by being able to test on a physical device, even when a sim will do fine.) But thank you so much for answering! You are as pleasant to talk to here as you were to listen to on Macworld and Incomparable podcasts back in the day šŸ˜

@settern If you can share: How often will applications be processed? (and when will the first batch be assigned?)

Iā€™ve made a lot of commitments/life changes to be ready to build for this, and my experiments with the visionOS simulator show me that I definitely need access to a real device in order to make the best apps!

@fbartho Nothing I can share about applications, unfortunately, but super glad to hear you're excited about the platform and have been experimenting with the simulator! Definitely sounds like you're a good candidate to apply for either a lab or a developer kit

@settern Iā€™ve been dreaming of true-AR and how it can reverse the tech-driven pendulum swing away from the real world since before my time as an Apple employee at the start of my career.

I left Apple on good terms, to go to a sequence of startups that each participated in various NDAed (and now live) devices / programs and Iā€™ve acquired many of the current-gen VR headsets for development purposes, and I can say that the visionPro has already blown away my optimistic estimates.

Letā€™s do this!

@settern I know that this is likely far down on Appleā€™s to do list with a new product category, but will there be a time when educators can get early access to begin to imagine how this will be used in classrooms and associated environments?

I still donā€™t get why Apple doesnā€™t leverage its me.com domain and start a social.me.com for users. Or at least social.apple.com for official people.

Make it part of some subscription thing. Safe, ad free, non-tracking social service.

@settern I have tried twice to apply for a set but after filling it all out I got redirected to https://developer.apple.com/maintenance/ both times. What's the secret of making it go through? We'd love to get our hands on a device.

@settern Got my first compatibility report back - so cool. Question though, does it say which version of visionOS it was tested on? Some of the things they identified I think were fixed in seed 2ā€¦ or I thought so and if not, I have more work to do. šŸ˜€
