Looking forward to #Musk trying to trademark a Unicode symbol, in this case ๐• :) Maybe we should start using #x1D54F as the new Hashtag for everything #Twitter and #X #๐• :) http://www.unicode-symbol.com/u/1D54F.html
๐• - mathematical double-struck capital x (u+1D54F) copy and paste - Unicodeยฎ symbol

Overview of U+1D54F code point glyphs and encodings

I mean, if your level of creativity and inspiration ends at "let's look at weird symbols in my character map" and copy-pasting ๐• in your photoshop, export it as png and calling it a glorious day ...

@jwildeboer
"Elon Musk has begun rebranding Twitter as X using a new logo crowdsourced from one of his followers."

No doubt crowdsourced to avoid having to paying anyone to create a design.

And showing, again, Musk's lack of due diligence.

Elon Musk scraps Twitter bird for X logo given to him by a follower

Familiar bird icon is being replaced by the letter X โ€“ also the name of his son with Grimes

So he's trying to trademark a symbol for a half-in-the-grave platform? What's even the point there?
@jwildeboer he's clearly not a mathematician.
@jwildeboer that would make it mutable again ๐Ÿ™ƒ
@jwildeboer I pointed out earlier that it clearly wasn't the same as the X.Org logo.
It now becomes clear why - X.Org had a clue.

@jwildeboer https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/26140

I think it would be even better if we could possibly use ๐• as an alternative hashtag sign: ๐•Twitter.

Allow ๐• (U+1D54F) as an alternative character for signaling hashtags ยท Issue #26140 ยท mastodon/mastodon

Pitch The growing popularity of the character X made even the owner of the well established brand throw away its good will and renaming his business to the plain X. Mastodon could use a little bit ...

@jwildeboer the point is not if he can register it, it's what would he control from that.
@carlopiana One of the many "plans" he has boosted about is to make ๐• the "everything app", just like WeChat in China. Your complete digital existence in one single app, controlled by a right-leaning narcissist. Isn't hat we al want? ;)
@jwildeboer run by someone reliable, never reckless, capricious or negligent... Oh wait...

@jwildeboer

Except that they have such a limited choice in China regarding web services (social media, payment, etc.), reason why the state aproved platform is so popular, doesn't it ?

@carlopiana

@jwildeboer ๐Ÿคฃ ๐Ÿฅณ ๐Ÿคญ ๐Ÿคก
@jwildeboer I can see him suing everyone using the unicode in future for plagiarising their trademark !
@jwildeboer the logo looks like it represents "how to chop your income in half"
@jwildeboer followed as a tag and boosted. I would like to join your cult and receive your newsletter.
@jwildeboer this is the man wall street assures us is a business genius. He just excretes gold out of every pore.
@jwildeboer Iโ€™m genuinely starting to think this is going to be like the thing with the Dogecoin logo and they'll change it back in a few days
@jwildeboer I am not an Elon fan by a very long way : does having ๐• a typable character have some marketing advantages?

@sashabilton @jwildeboer All modern OSes and browsers can render the new logo out of the box. That's certainly helpful when millions of websites and apps need to replace the bird and Musk will want that to happen as quickly as possible. If the whole UIX world needs to wait for all those icon set designers to replace the logo it could take months. Now web devs can just use the Unicode.

Since Musk cares for the new logo as much as the old logo, this way the transition at least less of a hassle.

@jwildeboer I'm calling the new thing "Zed" (UK "Z"; Canadian "zero") ๐Ÿ˜
@jwildeboer And looking forward to him complaining that browsers don't render ๐•.com properly :)
@jwildeboer he's really foolish, isn't he. It's almost as if he doesn't have a legal team โ€ฆ oh right โ€ฆ
@jwildeboer Given his handling of things he will use it nonetheless and then will threaten with legal prodceedings.
@jwildeboer five-dimensional-chess genius strikes again.

@jwildeboer

He can't DMCA all of us!

@jwildeboer
Honestly I don't see why that would be a barrier, I mean just today I noticed this:

@jwildeboer

Instead of X, perhaps a more appropriate name would be Y.

Question mark implied.

@jwildeboer

Rocket scientist forgot to see if it was worthy of trade protection.. Any swinging dick can use it..

@jwildeboer a creative director I used to work with taught me one of the most important design lessons I know: you want to create a logo, not a font.

This is literally a font.

@jwildeboer What about 'Powered By AI' doesn't read to you as, 'Stealing Everything We Can From The Public Domain'?
@jwildeboer I was just thinking about this. No copyright will issue for an x like that.
@jwildeboer He literally just picks an existing symbol and uses it as a logo, yet he's a "genius" ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ
@jwildeboer Going to be a bit of an anticlimax for you - all sorts of very standard marks are registered trademarks. You are free to use that same mark anywhere else you like, as long as it's not in a domain (industry) that will be confused with the registered one(s). You could start selling ๐• Energy Drink tomorrow, and you and musk can both have trademarks, for social media and foodstuffs. I could still sell ๐• Wireless headphones without a problem, but I couldn't make ๐• Cola.
@jwildeboer within the last day, someone in Japan registered 1d54f.com. The site currently just displays the unicode character
