I'm considering deleting my twitter account. Any experiences with doing that? Will it cause depression and other side effects I need to take into considerations?
I hardly use it anymore but a lot of my connections are stubbornly staying there and have not create an fediverse account. Will I regret it - Did you and for how long time? #leavingtwitter #twittermigration #FOMO #skolechat
@Ove I deleted mine the day after Musk took over. I miss it (a lot) but my morals and ethics are more important to me. I couldn’t, in good conscience, remain. So far, nothing has filled the gap, but the Twitter I miss doesn’t exist anymore anyways. On the positive side, I’ve read lots of books and listened to lots of podcasts!!!

@Ove as a first step, make all your tweets private by changing their visibility in the Audience and Tagging section of your privacy settings.

Then logout of all of your devices.

In one month decide if you want to kill it for good. I stopped using most of my accounts there. I only use one now and only for specific purposes.

I’m not sure that I’d ever delete my account as I can see reasons for needing it in the future and I also don’t want anyone hijacking my old screen names.

@Ove Delete it. Give your Twitter friends one less account to follow, and hopefully one fewer reason to stay. They can either follow you here, or they become (dare I say it?) your “X”. #TwitterMigration #LeavingTwitter
@Ove I did it when he walked in with the sink. Nothing has really replaced it for news for me. I’ve had to go back to the web for that. But for social stuff masto and bsky are almost there. Still no regrets.
@Ove I just did today. In my mind, Twitter is gone and I didn’t ask to sign up for X. So, account deleted. Sucks. But it was never part of the deal that these things would exist forever.
