I’ve found a way to be at peace with the current state of #Siri.
In tech terms, it’s old. 12 years is a long time in technology. When you’re old, it’s often the case that you develop a hearing impairment.
Due to the condition that causes my #blindness, I also have a hearing impairment. It’s tough when I can tell people are getting frustrated because I ask them to repeat themselves.
So, the golden rule applies here. Hearing impaired virtual assistants have every right to do the job to the best of their ability. So even though I am repeating myself to Siri more and more of the time now, I do so willingly in the name of #inclusion.
See? It’s all in the way you think about things.

@JonathanMosen i wish more people knew how to repeat themselves.

like, say the same sentence again, but on the third attempt, say it with different words and then I'll have enough to extrapolate the sentence.

people bounce off some syllables so fast in some sentences, just changing the order around means they finally say all the syllables and I can work it out.

@JonathanMosen

"Trog edd yinhg"

me: what?

"TROG EDs ying"

me: again please?

"the dog is wet and needs drying"

oh

They had said: "The dog needs drying" but so slurred and fast I had no chance.

@JonathanMosen hi Jonathan, some blind people say if you wait about two or three seconds after this Siri sound and then you ask the question Siri will be responding better.
@Alvarogutierrez Yes that is absolutely right, but a separate issue. There seems to be an issue with needing to wait for the new Siri sound to decay, which takes longer. But in this case, the issues it is having in understanding are in response to Hey Siri commands.
@JonathanMosen Jonathan: I love this! Thanks for making me laugh about Siri! The two most aggravating things she doesn't hear correctly: 1: the simple word "I." She will routely insert the word "are," instead. Those sounds are not the same and I speak very clearly and distinctly. She also doesn't respond correctly to the question: "Text Joe Blow." She will say: "What do you want to know about Joe Blow?" Maybe Siri's age is really like a dog's age: seven years for every one year, so she'd be 84! Please, I mean no offense to people who are in their 80's! Thanks for injecting humor into this on the one hand, and for commenting on your hearing impairment, as well.
@JonathanMosen That's an interesting perspective. Except that Siri has a team of people who can and should keep the Assistant's conditionto the best of their ability. But do they? :)

@JonathanMosen The real sad thing with Siri truly, is the fact that #Bixby on my S23+ in Lavender from #Samsung rarely gives me issues these days.

I honestly don’t even use Siri on my Macintosh!

Well, unless I’m using it with #VoiceOver from time to time…

@JonathanMosen IAdmire your patience, kindness, tolerance and, above all, your facility in rationalizing what you cannot control.
@JonathanMosen Oh thank you! That really made me smile. As someone legally blind and hearing impaired I can relate with what you said. And oddly I now find myself thinking a bit more fondly about sweet and always so polite Siri. :)
Less fondly tho about Apple regarding their negligence . They are rich, they should get Siri the best audiologist ! After that many years of faithful service, she deserves the best AI hearing aids money can buy!
