At Yorkdale alone, 19 towers that range from 12 to 40 storeys are to be built in a crescent pattern along the north parking lot situated between the mall and Highway 401.

Ambitious Redevelopment of Yorkdale Shopping Centre Presented to Design Review Panel | UrbanToronto

A master plan is in the works to redevelop the parking lots around Yorkdale Shopping Centre, one of the largest and most popular malls in the GTA. The plan was recently presented to the Toronto Design Review Panel for comment.

@gemelliz the area around and in Yorkdale is already a nightmare & parking in itself is a nightmare at the mall. While I do see potential in the redevelopment, I really hope they build vertically for more parking space.

Yes, transit is an option but unfortunately transit in the GTA sucks. Until we have Asian or European level transit systems, people will still largely drive to the mall...

@deltatux I hear you; perhaps underground garages will be incorporated into the redevelopment. There's also rumours of a covered, elevated pedestrian/cycling bridge spanning 17 lanes of Highway 401 to connect this development to the massive infill planned on the airport lands at #Downsview.

@gemelliz @zazzoo this should be happening everywhere, and not just with the huge malls.. We have a lot of small strip malls in Kitchener-Waterloo that could be redeveloped as mixed use residential/commercial.
