Covers of songs that are better than the original. I'll start.

Cake's cover of "I Will Survive".

Tom Waits's cover of "Somewhere".

Sinead O'Connor's cover of "Nothing Compares 2 U".

Ray Charles's cover of everything Ray Charles covered.

Y'all have me making a playlist now.

@middleclasstool I don't know why that's not embedding. Oh, well.
@elizarde That was rather bouncier than I had anticipated

@middleclasstool So bouncy. So very bouncy.

They toured for that album back in the early aughts, and I caught them at my local haunt. Their set was The Wall in its entirety, from beginning to end, as a country/bluegrass album. It was delightfully weird, and somehow so right.

@elizarde Fun Fact: My last high school girlfriend was in marching band and was a HUGE Floyd fan. One year she actually mapped out a marching choreography for The Wall. The ENTIRE ALBUM.

@elizarde @middleclasstool covers better than the original, you say? (Straying from the bluegrass theme cuz I’m a rebel)

@BitterOldPunk holy shit that is wonderful
@middleclasstool in a world bursting at the seams with Black Sabbath covers, that one’s near the top
@BitterOldPunk I will admit that I was expecting Bowie and it took me a minute

@middleclasstool Wow.

ETA: And by 'wow' I mean, "Wow, that was amazing, and my day is better for having seen it."

@middleclasstool Another entry into 'not better but different'/'didn't read the assignment but keeps going anyway': I've always been partial to the Love & Rockets version of Ball of Confusion.

Now you've got me down a rabbit hole. Thank you!
