IMAX movies like Oppenheimer that use 70mm film still require a Palm Pilot, and instead of rewriting the software they just made an emulator.

I don’t know why, but I love this. https://www.theverge.com/23801118/imax-movie-palm-pilot-oppenheimer

Here’s why 70mm IMAX movies like Oppenheimer need a Palm Pilot to work

In IMAX theaters around the world, Oppenheimer will play in its full 70mm glory. In the projection booth, a Palm m130 will help make it happen.

My question is, why is IMAX still on physical film. The movie is shot and edited/mastered digitally, so why don't they just use a digital projector like every other modern movie?

@atatassault @tylersticka the projection quality is higher

@givlucas @tylersticka

I don't understand how that can be the case. Since it's shot digitally and edited digitally, wouldn't printing it to film lower the quality?

@atatassault @tylersticka idk I made it up

@givlucas @atatassault Nolan shoots on film, not digitally.

Since I have made zero films and he has made many wildly successful ones, I’m going to assume he knows what he’s doing.
